Bus / Taxi Lanes in One Direction

Hi All

Is there any official guidance on how to deal with roads which is open to all traffic in one direction, but only buses / taxis in the other?

I know we can set them as one way roads, but then UR’s appear saying people have gone against the flow of traffic (presumably taxi drivers).

Any thoughts?

Can you give us an example?

Here in Luton for instance:

Church Street, Park Street, and Vicaridge Street are set as one way, but on all those roads buses and taxis can travel the other way. (I have set the roads where only buses and taxis can go as private)

This routes perfectly fine in that it won’t allow general car users with waze to go wrong, so should it be left like this and just accept the odd UR about people going the other way?

That is how I would do it too. You will get automated map problems saying users have been going against the grain but as long as some other editor doesn’t change to two way without checking you’ll be ok. I assume the roundabout has not been mapped to avoid incorrect instructions. You’ll also be best off removing the reverse connections in that one way system.

It’s not really a roundabout at all in that traffic in both directions can bypass it down one side.

Many thanks for your attention!

You could split it into 2 one-way roads, and have the bus only lane set to an “Unknown” direction Parking Lot Road.

I’d be concerned that someone else would come along and set the direction on an unknown direction segment.

Level 5 editors messing with things they don’t understand. Never happens.

Quite.

Hi,

Hmmm… :!:

Des. . .

Name the road ‘(Bus Only)’ may help to avoid L5 to messing up

I’ve used the Buses Only name a few times but always put it in the alternative name bit
