User reported a problem and upon investigation this intersection was set up as a square without the necessary turn restrictions. I have bow tied it and set it up as best as I can tell from streetview. If any locals can check that this is all correct now that would be great.

I don’t think I’ve been through there this year but from memory that looks pretty good

Looks a bit complicated to what it could be though. Why are we double laneing into the round-a-bout? Would it not be easier just to keep it as a single road? Also the round-a-bout to the west has a by-pass around the island. Has the layout on the ground changed to the aerial?

The whole area has changed. That roundabout has gone hence the bow tie. If you move around in streetview you will find some views are of the roundabout and some are of the new intersection!!

I just fixed what was already there. That is, there were already dual lanes. I am of the understanding we aren’t removing dual lanes because we would lose the speed data??

Just a couple of things to keep in mind.

These two segments have excess junction nodes that can be removed.

Street naming consistancy, both are the same road but one has the street name abbreviated and the other has the full name.

I have fixed the naming.

With respect to the junction nodes. If I remove them will the speed data be lost?

Also while I am looking around there. What is the standard with putting in slip lanes. As I see it they are not needed for the directions to work and indeed clutter the map somewhat. I have been playing around tidying up the split roads and I came across this. I have done some tidying up but am wondering if the slip lane should just be deleted?

Most of the time you shouldn’t loose any data, it might change slightly if there are differing speeds for each segment. I think it would just re-average the speeds for the length of the new segment.

In this case, the speed data for both the short and long segments of each road are the same.

Dariy Rd A->B: 37kph / B->A: 60kph

Pialligo Ave A->B: 43kph / B->A: 41kph

So you just need to get rid of this node and this node

Getting rid of the extra nodes helps to get rid of penalties and possible incorrect turn restrictions.

Along with deleting junction nodes, cleaning up excess geometry nodes will help to reduce database size and will speed up the display rendering in the client.

The slip lanes are a case by case thing. See if there are any GPS traces. If the intersection has long lanes or is large, the lanes can help to stop map errors with “roads to far apart”.

Have a read of the following At-Grade Connectors

But try to keep things simple as it’s less work and less maintenance. :smiley:

OK Thanks for all that advice.

I have finished in that area I think. Hopefully some improvement by simplifying the intersections. Hopefully after the update there wont be any complaints from the regular Wazers through there!
