How to move up to a higher editing level

v2 updated December 17, 2015\nv3 updated May 8, 2016\nv4 updated September 8, 2016\nv5 updated December 6, 2019\nv6 updated December 24, 2019\nv7 updated July 29, 2026\n\nDEAR WAZERS.\nMore and more editors are approaching or have already exceeded the requirements to reach editing Level 4 or even higher, so we believe it is necessary to clarify the process within the Spanish community, which, following Waze guidelines, is aligning with the rest of the communities.\nAs you know, there are different editing levels that allow you to have more privileges within the Waze network as you reach them.\n\n- A novice editor is LEVEL 1, and can edit an area of 1.60 km around the area they have driven in, with these limitations\n\n- LEVEL 2: editors who have achieved over “3k” (3,000 edits) and can edit 3.21 km\n\n- LEVEL 3: editors who achieved over “25k” (25,000 edits) and can edit up to 4.82 km\n\nUp to this point, the transition should be automatic after reaching the required number of edits. If this is not the case, you should contact Support, and if there is no response, you can do so through this thread.\nRequests should be made through the form available in the Waze Help Center: https://support.google.com/waze/troubleshooter/6270854?hl=es&ref_topic=6263209\nProcess duration: if everything is working correctly, a couple of days\n
\n\nFrom this level onwards, skills and commitment to the community are required beyond the number of edits\n\n**- LEVEL 4**: The Reliable Contributor: The focus is on editing competence and proper etiquette within the community. Editors are expected to have mastered basic editing tools and started interacting with the community.\n\nYou can apply for this level after reaching 100K (100,000 edits). The following is expected of you:\n\n* AM (Area Manager) Management: Frequent editing and maintenance of an AM area. Experience in the specific area.\n\n* Regular map maintenance to ensure all segments, places, and house numbers are accurate.\n\n* Promptly attend to and resolve User Reports (UR) and Map Problems (MP) within the AM area, and communicate with users politely.\n\n* Proactively stay updated on local road changes, new developments, and infrastructure projects to reflect them on the map.\n \n\n* Be active in the Forum: Proactively stay informed about the latest news and announcements provided by Waze staff and the communities team. Contribute your knowledge and experience to local forums or other community channels, and actively participate in the development cycle by providing constructive feedback on new features, beta versions, and map editing tools to ensure they meet the needs of your local region.\n\nLevel progression must be requested from one of the Local Champs\n\n
\n\n**- LEVEL 5**: The Community Mentor: The “bridge” level. It is no longer enough to edit well; you must help others edit well. It focuses on becoming a “Community Mentor,” with a heavy emphasis on Junction Boxes, restrictions, and the success of new editors.\n\nTo apply for this level, 250K (250,000 edits) are required. The following is expected of you:\n\n* Lanes on JBs: Ability to understand when and how to map lane guidance in Junction Boxes.\n\n* Paths / Far Lanes: Knowledge on how to add a path and set up far turns.\n\n* Restricted area and segment restrictions: Comprehensive and broad understanding of the importance of creating a restricted area and the types of restrictions that exist in WME (for specific days, hours, vehicles, permits, lanes, and tolls).\n\n\n\n* Mentoring: Be an active mentor in the community and share your knowledge with your mentees. This includes providing 1-on-1 guidance in complex mapping scenarios, offering constructive feedback on the quality of edits to ensure map accuracy, and actively encouraging mentees to participate in community discussions and local groups to build their network; or, even if you do not act as an official mentor, you enjoy the full trust of the community to resolve map queries, guide your peers through their editing journey, and offer constructive feedback to support their growth.\n\n\n\nTo request this level, you must send an application to one of the coordinators (calandraca or robindlc). To achieve this level, there must be unanimity among the Champs and, of course, with the coordinators who finally process the request in Waze.\n
\n\n**- LEVEL 6**: The Strategic and Diplomatic Leader: Technical mastery of editing is taken for granted. The role shifts almost entirely toward leadership, project management, conflict resolution, and collaboration with Waze Staff.\n\nThis level can be applied for starting from 500,000 edits, but obviously, the most important thing is not the number of edits. The following is expected of a Level 6:\n\n Leader and consensus builder: Demonstrates leadership through consensus-seeking and serving as a role model for peers. Actively facilitates the resolution of internal community conflicts. Embodies the qualities of an experienced and approachable leader with extensive experience in Waze.\n\n* Map Raid organizer or project leader: Identifies areas for map improvement and organizes Map Raids (whether local or global) and/or leads, organizes, and promotes mapping initiatives such as: mapping traffic lights, speed bumps, closing URs in certain areas, reviewing open KoiFish suggestions, and newly launched Waze mapping features to unlock them for our users.\n\n* Relationship with your country coordinator: Maintains a strong collaborative relationship with their country coordinators and demonstrates expertise in knowing when to escalate concerns to coordinators. Knows who their Waze team Community Manager is.\n\n* Maintains at least one other active role besides Map Editor: is a Community Booster, Partner Coordinator, Mentoring Coordinator, WME Pirate, Beta Tester, Beta Leader, TE Marshall, First Responder, Coordinator, Local Champ, Culture Chair, Mega Mapper, Script Writer, or any other available community role.\n\nThis level is reserved only for Champs\n\nThese requirements are taken from the guidelines sent by Waze and are similar across all communities.
