Could Waze use www.roadworks.org info?

Don’t know where to put this, but the UK forum seems as good as any.

http://www.roadworks.org currently aggregates planned and live roadworks information from the Highways Agency, Traffic Scotland, Transport for London and the vast majority of Local Authorities in England & Wales. It’s updated every half hour.

The information is available via the Elgin Roadworks API, an xml based system, which may be available free. The terms and condtions are here: http://assets-production.govstore.service.gov.uk/Gii%20Attachments/06b%20Cats%20-%20uploaded/G2.246%20-%20Roadworks%20Information%20Limited/Archive1/ELGIN%20Roadworks%20API%20Terms%20of%20Service%20-%20April%202012.pdf

Now wouldn’t it be handy to have all that info on UK roadworks in Waze? Is there any way to achieve this?

A bit more info on the API here: http://www.elgin.org.uk/other-apps/api-services

Wow, handy site. Just checked some very minor / local roadworks and they’re all there, and up to date. Even when a road isn’t actually closed, and it’s only for two days.

I keep using http://www.roadworks.org as a reference to feed the waze around my area. It is OK to use but still have to check the actual day of commence and completion. I’ve few cases that says it starts on 1/11 but now it has not started yet as I did drive through there 2 days ago.

I have a feeling that google map is using information from http://www.roadworks.org as I have seen the alerts is quite similar to what the website shows. If it is the case, I believe Waze can use it too.

We’ve been asking Waze to incorporate DATEX2 feeds for months (years?). Will ask them again…

While were waiting for Waze to incorporate roadworks.org information automatically (and I’m not expecting it even “soon”), people may want to use it to pick up information about major roadworks in their local areas and update WME. The site offers a facility to send you email alerts, which could potentially be very useful.

Has anybody worked out the best settings for email alerts? So far, I’ve found that picking “road closures and diversions” inundates me with masses of minor works which I wouldn’t want to put on Waze, and so is essentially useless. However, picking “roadworks” instead allows me to restrict reports to “delays likely”, and cuts down the volume to something more manageable.

My next problem is that I’m only getting works “starting today or tomorrow”, which is a bit short notice for updating WME.

I find roadworks.org has far too many events on it, and locating actual road closures in amongst them is pretty hard. Best I’ve managed is filtering on severity (red triangle), but I don’t know if you can get emails for that.

I think setting alerts of “delays likely” will just produce results for the red triangles.
