Roadworks in UK

Hi I notice many UK councils and government bodies use the website roadworks.org to detail roadworks taking place in the UK with dates I’m not sure if waze does but is there a way this could be linked into waze so they are automatically shown as it would help journey planning

We’ve been trying to get the roadworks.org data fed into Waze for longer than I’ve been with Waze - completely without success.

Elgin (the company that runs roadworks.org even produces a standard data feed that could feed directly into Waze. Our former Community Coordinator, dmcconnachie even met personally with the chariman of Elgin in 2011.

Try searching the UK forums for “Elgin” or “DATEX2” and you’ll find more.

It appears that there is now data from “Elgin” in Waze, but in my opinion, this is a disaster. The shear quantity of roadworks being shown on the maps is obscuring more useful reports such as congestion, hazards and so forth. And it is not even possible to filter these “roadworks” from the display.

Please either remove this data, or provide a configurable category to enable them to be switched off from display, as they are making the app next to useless for me at present!

In this thread
It was suggested that roadworks.org data could be shown on Waze and so it came to pass.

Having lived with this for a while, I have noted the following problems with showing Elgin data on Waze.

  1. Many of the roadworks in Elgin are future roadworks.
These are not holding up traffic today because they don’t exist.
These roadworks should not be shown by Waze.

  2. Many roadworks in Elgin usually cover a period of time (like 2 or 3 weeks) but will only last 1 or 2 days (if they take place at all).
There needs to be a way for Waze to show these types of roadworks differently to roadworks that are actually taking place right now (and causing congestion).

  3. On Waze, Elgin roadworks look the same as hazards reported by Wazers (the yellow triangle hazard icon).
This does not help and makes it more confusing to use Waze while driving.
The yellow triangle hazard icon should only be used to show hazards reported by Wazers.
Elgin roadworks should use a different icon to make things less confusing.
The hardhat construction icon would be ideal.
If the roadworks were causing congestion, Wazers would report this and it would show up as congestion or the roadworks hazard icon.
You would then know that the Elgin roadworks were really taking place.

  4. There should be an option for the user to choose to have Elgin data show on Waze or not.

Just my 10p worth.

I agree with your opinion, good idea! :stuck_out_tongue:

We are working with Waze to improve the road works you see on the map.
