Delay from map edit to live map appearance

Can anyone tell me how long it takes for an edit to go live? I added a new road to the adjacent housing estate a week ago but still can’t see it on the live map.

Usually it takes about a day or two, but sometimes if there are issues, that can be delayed. Please look at the INTL part of the Map Build in the system status page: https://status.waze.com/

The Live map on the web does take longer to update, and does not use the same map build. If you’ve made the change a week ago these changes will have made it to the Waze app.

Thanks Keith,

I made the changes around April 11. It’s been a long time since I ‘paved’ and then contributed to the editor, so maybe I missed something. The changes aren’t on the app yet either. I’ve tried ‘update local map’ on my phone and a screen flies past so fast I can hardly read it about deleting old files, so I guess I’m already up to date.

Is there a place to go to ‘submit’ a completed edit that I have missed? The road looks ‘good to go’ to me and I’ve even added house numbers! The only thing is that turns don’t seem to appear at the end of the road where it meets the highway - maybe that happens when it goes live?

Pressing the save button on the edit is the submit button, so any changes you’ve made should already be on the app.

I’ve had a look at your edit history and I can see a number of issues that need correcting.

  • The segment you’ve added, Kites’ Rest, is not connected to the road Stoke Rd. You can tell as there are no turn arrows appearing when the segment is selected. Stoke Rd is actually locked to L4, so you will need someone at or above that rank to connect the road for you, or to temporarily unlock the road down L1 for you.
  • In the UK, (even though it’s available to use) we don’t use the Narrow Road road type. Especially with cul-de-sacs like this, Narrow Road road type will not have any effect. Best use Street for this type of road, unless it’s private driveway, and then the Private Road road type will be best to use. The Unpaved tag will also have negligible effect.
  • I’ve also looked at the other segment you’ve edited, Rectories Dr. You’ve enabled a u-turn here:.
Again, like Narrow Road, u-turns are not something we use in the UK, as they can cause strange routing.

If you need something changing on a locked road, you’ll need to make a request on the UK Editors Request sub-forum (this forum), following the rules of the page.

I’ve fixed these issues, but please remember this for any future editing you may do. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Keith,

I thought there was something missing! I don’t remember asking to join to Drayton Rd for Rectories drive, but it did take a few weeks for it to go live. I expect someone kindly did what you did to make it work.

The current road is due to be surfaced this year, but currently the houses are vacant and no sign of buyers in the lockdown. So I had the time to add it in as un-surfaced.

Rectories drive is a private road and it is very narrow - two cars can’t pass easily. Also Kites’ Rest is currently private but no doubt will be adopted this year.

Thanks again,

regards, Dave.
