Hi. I’ve just tried to do my first map edit, to report a long-term road closure until September for sewer replacement. This is on a segment which I drove on Tuesday 25th July, and which I passed the end of this morning and this evening.
I can go to the map and see my drives for those days. I can click on that segment. However, I am not allowed to make an edit on the map at all.
The segment is on Bakeham Lane, Englefield Green, Surrey, south of the A30 between Prune Hill and Simons Walk, in the direction of Virginia Water (so not the segment between Prune Hill and the A30 junction).
This road will be closed between (planned) 26th August and 26th September 2017.
Am I doing something wrong, to not be allowed to make my first edit?
That section has, due to the volume of traffic using it, been automatically locked to level 4 editors. You should see that “Lock: Auto (4)” at the bottom-left of the segment details listing shown on the left of the screen when you select it.
I’ve added the closure for you, let us know if the dates change so we can update it for you.
Thanks Stu. Frustrating that I wanted to do my first edit, and got blocked! I’ve also tried to update speed limits on the campus here at the univesity, and again don’t have permission! Oh well, maybe I’ll get started sometime
Hi Again Stu - found that there are some segments which are level 1, so added speed limits on main campus, and changed the 30mph to 15 on the residential area. Hopefully, that will have started me on the path to my editing career LOL.
Hello again. Yesterday morning, I came up Prune Hill past the junction. Segment marked as closed, so all OK. Yesterday evening, Waze route wanted to take me along that segment!!! This morning, it is also showing as open when I came past it.
Somewhere, somehow, by someone, that closure has been removed from the map, but is still very much in existence.
The closure was added for the times you specified in your post, so 26th August to 26th September and so the closure wont take effect until 26th August. Did you mean 26th July til 26th September? If so, the closure will need adjusting, but i’m sure someone will help you with this.
I thought so. I’m unable to add closures as i’m not a high enough level, and Surrey is WAAAAAAAAAY out of my editing area but i’m sure Stu will help and correct it, if not another editor from the area.
Don’t let this put you off editing, as it is insanely addictive and fun. If you haven’t already, I recommended checking out the UK Guidelines over on Wazeopedia as well as this forum post. This will tell you the main gist of everything.
Yes - still showing the closure as of 26th August, not 26th July … so hopefully Stu or someone will be able to update this for me.
I need to get to grips with editing anyway - we have some changes here on the university campus which need doing, including a whole new road! I’ll get there eventually
