Couldn’t find instructions on what to do if a PUR doesn’t exist from when you click on the permalink in the spreadsheet. Maybe someone rejected it? It’s line 20123. I could add it but conscious that it then won’t link back to the data provider.
As we are explicitly not allowed to copy other maps we can’t add it based on Zap-Map. We have been told we can use the providers own website, network details to confirm information and WME with internal StreetView for placement.
It should be listed on the Sheet as Problem with a comment to say there is no PUR
You can map it based on the information you have and when we get a new round of imports then the location can be merged with a feed linked PUR
Does it matter that when adding them manually it combines the chargers together i.e. 4 with 7kw Type 2 Mennekes. Whereas the ones imported from the feed are all listed individually?
Manual input:
From feed:
P.S. It will not allow me to input in the ‘Network’ field.
OK - noted.
What do I do about the Clenergy ones that are coming up as a single device when there are actually 2?
Martin
P.S. Clenergy is missing from the list at the bottom of the wiki page: https://www.clenergy-ev.com/ev-drivers/charger-network/
I’m sure I read somewhere that restricted chargers wouldn’t be offered to Waze users? Is that correct? As an EV user this concerns me. I wouldn’t have a problem with a Tesco charger being suggested if it meant I had to go in store. There haven’t been too many I’ve approved so far that are purely public.
I am leaning towards making them as “unrestricted” as possible. Any in supermarket car parks I am setting as public. If you have to go and buy a newspaper or coffee while you wait for the charging, I don’t see this as an issue.
I have just driven around several near me and have been surprised that there are no signs that would prevent anyone using the charger (or in fact the car park!)
The only ones I have found with time limits are Aldi and Lidl (typ. 2 hours). I suspect this is because they have relatively small car parks for the size of store and they have no cafe in store. Even those did not have any “customer use only” signs.
So on that basis wouldn’t you also set Costa chargers for example as public? It’s the same principle as I see it. You’re not going to faff around driving somewhere else if you’re low on charge for the sake of buying a coffee.
I think it’s correct that it’s flagged as restricted, because it just is, but it should just be a warning on screen rather than not being suggested at all, if that’s the case.
I think there needs to be some clear rules on this otherwise there’s going to be lots of inconsistencies from editor to editor.
See the exchange above between me and atrophicshiner about the ones in Morrison’s car parks - these are shown as Restricted and, as Chris spotted, there is a “Customers only” bit on the sign on the way into the car park, as well as a time limit. (I think time limits are pretty common across the supermarket board these days.) There’s no (apparent) requirement to prove you’re a customer and, if you’re paying for facility on someone’s premises (their car park) doesn’t that make you a customer anyway?? (Only just thought of that last bit!!)
I don’t want to start an argument here and hope all the irritating stuff I’ve put here has been useful to others, but I’ve now seen conflicting advice from 2 champs…
Regards
Martin
Sorry - another question.
What do we do about a situation like this - Permalink - where @BeRoWaz has created an area place for an EV hub (first one I’ve seen) but with no charger info. I’ve approved the new evcs-fed charger info but this is the first I’ve seen that’s e.g. not in a car park. Should I change the new place to an area and replace the existing one? Change the existing area to e.g. car park and leave the new maintained one as a point within it? Something else?
There was mention of a sub-forum for EVCS questions but I don’t see it - am I missing something there too?
Thanks
Martin
My thoughts on all these subjects relating to EV chargers is evolving as we go along. Every time we find a new issue, all we can do is approach it with the same logic we have always used when adding new places to the map.
The difference between my example and Chris’ is that is none the supermarket chargers I have dealt with have been in carparks with any “customer only” signs or time limits. That said, as an EV driver, would you object to having to go into the store while your car was changing, if that’s what the signage said you had to do. Personally I would not mind. You have around 30 minutes to wait anyway (I think, I do not drive one of these)
I am still unsure in my own mind about the issue of - are you satisfying the requirement to be a customer purely by being at the charger and paying for a re-charge? Many supermarkets near me now have a car wash service in the car park area and I have had my car washed without going in the supermarket. A similar issue I think.
These are all points for resolution over time, once we have a better understanding of how these should be set. For the moment, all we can do is work through these as best we can,
If there is a issue with the imported EVC mark it as a Problem and note the reason in the comments
The wiki is a working document, I can’t be expected to list 255 provider details as I have a life to live. Please be patient as this expanding all the time.
As this is an existing mapping of an EV location it needs to be merged with the new feed mapping. We have not looked at hubs but I would suggest mapping this as an Area Place would not be wrong. Everything can always be changed in future.
I believe we can only truly make a decision on Public / Restricted is when we get a chance to try it out in the app. The information from Waze has been conflicting at best. I also recall Brett saying that only Public chargers would be surfaced on the app but then later saying users would be able to select what gets shown to them. Until then we can only work from signage at each location.
The restricted vs public is an interesting one. I’ve just come across a Q-Park which is public (no arguments there). I’m pretty sure you have to pay for parking as well as pay for your charge. As a user I’d definitely feel a bit peeved with Waze if it suggested a Q-Park which might cost me an arm and a leg to park for an hour vs a Morrisons where I could sit in their cafe or do some shopping, because it has been flagged as restricted.
I really hope Waze thinks about the implications of this.
Following a review of the EV Office Hours video and discussion here, we are updating our guidance on EVCS Access Types and what the UK considers Public vs. Restricted. The UK no longer considers customers only to be a restriction meaning the vast majority of supermarket and similar charging stations should be set to Public. This may create a conflict with car park mapping, but as these features are independent the EVCS is considered a stand alone policy at this time. It is our understanding that only Public chargers will be shown to users on launch, in a future update / release users will get the option to filter access types including Restricted.
Please review the updated Wazeopedia page, your views and comments are welcome, and once again EVCS guidance is still developing. We do not expect you to trawl the previously approved PURs to update them as we have plenty more to review, these can be updated as we come across them.
As we are unable to edit the import data and can only use the tool Waze has provided to us there is little we can do about this difference, again, until this is available in the app it is difficult to know how the differences will be displayed.
