Flagging GSP as toll road

Question about marking roads as Toll Road. I got a UR that the GSP wasn’t marked as a toll road. Is there a reason we don’t do this, or should a level 5 be taking time to mark the highway as a toll road?

If this is a tool road then it can be marked on the map as a toll road. If you click on the road section and look just under the road type there is a check box that can be checked to make it as a tool road but you need to an editor of the level of the road lock or higher to do so. Or you can ask for a unlock request to do this also.

There’s a divided school of thought on this.

On one side is the not-wrong argument that if I, as a driver who doesn’t know the area, want to avoid paying any tolls, I would not feel comfortable driving past any kind of sign indicating I am entering a toll road, regardless of whether my navigation system found a route along that road that is not tolled - especially if my navigator doesn’t specifically point this out to me as I’m passing signs that very clearly say Toll Road.

On the other side, we have to remember that the GSP is only partially tolled, meaning it is possible to make trips on it depending on where you get on and where you get off without needing to pay any tolls. The entire section between US-9 in Woodbridge and US-22 in Union is completely free in both directions, for example. As a result, if Waze navigates you on such a route even if you enable avoid tolls, the route is still technically valid, provided you actually exit where it specifically tells you to.

Waze and the editing community have decided, long ago, on the latter approach, and that is still the current guidance. Consequently, only the segments where a toll is actually collected are to be marked as toll road, while all the rest are to remain free. I see URs about this all the time and just explain to the reporter that the GSP is partially tolled and it is possible for Waze to find free routes along it.

I understand how you are doing it, in that case, then the below exit ramp section need to be changed to toll, this is exit 117A.

Good call about exit 117A. I fixed it.

Great, thanks!
