I’ve setup the gates a private roads, to deter routing coming in, but not going out. My issue is that the complex has many buildings, and a few roads. It covers a few hundred acres of land. I’m leaning towards regarding it similar to a small military base where it gets labeled a small city with many buildings. There are a few thousand people that work at the main building every day. There is another building going up that will have a few thousand more people. For reference, the 2 main roads in are 3-4 lane roads.
I landmakred the main building, but there are few other large buildings, with another dozen of support buildings. I don’t think tagging all the buildings has any value. I’m ok with tagging a couple more, but i see little value beyond that.
You didn’t really write what exactly you’re not happy with. Treating it like a private/military complex would seem to make sense and it sounds like you’ve gone down that route (pun intended), so what’s not working well?
First I want to know if what I have done is per the standards. What I’m not happy with is the routing through the gates. I want to allow traffic into the complex, but not let traffic use the roads as a pass through. Right now it doesn’t route into the complex.
The campus is controlled entry at the gates. Once you are in, you can drive anywhere. Building access is very different though, and is based on varying levels of security.
I didn’t want to mark the whole thing as private roads, as there are varying levels of roads. The majority of the people that go into the complex travel on the main road (3-4 Lanes) however there are a number over other 2 lane & 1 lane roads. There are also some maintenance roads as well as an intricate system of dirt roads and 4x4 paths used for patrols of the campus.
The campus is too small to warrant the use of multiple levels of roads. Mark the Dirt & Parking Lot Roads as such, and the rest of it private and everything should be good to go.
I’m not understanding the problem. Waze is routing me into the complex without issue.
Be very careful with having these roads connected to the outside road network. It looks to me that as the waze map is set up you can bypass the gates by using the dirt roads. I suspect that this is not the actual case on the ground. The problem is that waze may decide that the penalty for routing over the private road segments is greater than traversing the dirt roads and waze may route people to the campus over the dirt roads. The weight seems pretty balanced between the dirt roads and private roads in this particular case, which surprises me.
Disconnected dirt roads from roads outside the complex.
Unless anyone objects, I’m not going to landmark the maintenance & support buildings. I also do not plan on putting in military base landmark for the whole complex unless needed.
There appears to be one remaining primary road segment here. That is might cause problems as the private road transition penalty will be double for one gate over the other depending on which side of the primary road segment you are on.
