I’m 59, I live in the West Midlands, and I edited my first road last week by accident,
The reason I dug out the Map editor was that I got slightly lost (understatement) in a new estate near Wolverhampton. I hate getting lost, especially when I’m on the ground - it seems so pathetic, as I can usually find my way around even if I have to resort to following my nose, this failed me, so I had to resort to phoning a friend and getting him to leap up and down waving his arms about at the end of his (uncharted!) street.
My background is that I have driven and flown around the UK for the last 40 odd years, using Little Chef road atlases during my repping (pre interweb) years, and also used most of the free and some of the (mostly overrated) paid nav and traffic apps, before finally settling on Waze as the most reliable guide to current location, best routing and most up-to date traffic android app. Literally my only complaint would be the slightly bouncy colour schemes, and even they have grown on me in time.
I worked my way up to Royalty Wazer without editing a single tile, though I did suggest a couple of corrections (my latest involving the correction of a misleading route to my local Brewery - yes really!).
I like maps, and have used all sorts including the UK 250,000 and 50,000 CAA charts for air navigation, and miscellaneous approach plates for instrument navigation, ILS approaches etc, so I know how important accurate guidance can be. Though at least with road navigation, you usually have signs, markings and lane guidance painted on the floor!!
Having broken my duck, I’m now up for general map maintenance and editing, but since I don’t know what I’m doing yet, some guidance from those of you with ‘the knowledge’ would be very welcome.
My new road (now added successfully I think) is Kirton Place, Ettingshall, Wolverhampton, with a few edits of surrounding streets to make it all fit.
So my sum total Waze Map editor experience is - I’ve added a road and saved it.
Feel free to point me in the right direction.
Live long and prosper.
