I’m new to the editing world and one of the more experienced editors suggest I come along and say hello. I’ve been trying to find places that I can be of some use so I’ve started adding local businesses and facilities in my village (churches, village halls etc.) but I wondered if there’s something you guys would suggest as a good way of getting started.
I’m trying to make my way through the guide as I go so apologies if I make any mistakes at this point.
Anyway, if you can think of anything you think is a good thing for a beginner to start on, let me know
The UK Waze map is quite mature now, so there’s not a huge amount of opportunity on existing roads, especially as a lot of those will be locked higher then your editing level.
Places is a good place to start; mapping new places, updating existing places to include services, web site addresses, phone numbers, navigation points etc.
Also, new housing estates, there’s plenty of new stuff going on in Wootton and surrounding areas, they will need to be mapped/corrected (if they’re already mapped), have road names/speed limits applied.
Remember, Waze is about simplicity. We don’t map every single road/junction etc, just enough to make a clean, clear interface and provide correct routing (car park roads are a good example of this, please don’t map every single car park road, just the outer ones, see how other car parks are currently mapped)
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, we all started out at L1, asking questions, we’re all happy to provide guidance and assistance and in fact would rather do this then have to go back and clear up incorrectly maps roads!
Anyway, enjoy the editing and please don’t be upset or deterred if a more senior editor comes along and changes something you may have updated, there’s usually a good reason for this
