New Aerial Imagery

In case you haven’t already noticed, it looks like we’ve recently got some new aerial imagery in the UK.

At least one long-outstanding UR noting the absence of up-to-date aerials has been cleared in the Midlands, another one in Scotland now has new aerial images and I have seen some new stuff in Wales as well. I’ve also heard that Northern Ireland finally has some decent aerials (Happy Birthday, Pip  ).

If there are any areas that you have made a mental note to check up on because the imagery wasn’t up to scratch, now might be a good time to have a look.

I also note that at least some of the images are identical to what I can see on Google Maps. Whether that’s because of cross-licensing of 3rd-party images or something to do with the acquisition I couldn’t tell you. I’ve not heard anything official about getting new images.

Hmm just looked at a few at still seems to be Bing for now (wherever I look), but looking at some areas in NI, they matched bing although they are brighter on bing, but checking on bing, they seem to be copyright 2013 nokia (could get complicated lol)

Not sure if thats new, but maybe bing have bought rights to a few images where they knew they were poor.

EDIT: Ok just ignore me, looks like the nokia copyright might be for the maps rather than the imagery.

Thanks Iain!

is a bit like my Christmases and birthdays have all come at once! just need to get back to work to get properly stuck in!

Pip

Hi,

All you need do now is check whether this new imagery is in the correct position. Looks a little out where I checked the map…
Or are we out??!!

Des. . .

Hi,

As as aside, is there someone in particular you can report incorrectly aligned imagery for check, test and realignment?

Des. . .

I don’t know where you could report misaligned aerials. Try NanoRep?

If the aerials are misaligned, don’t forget the Waze Aerial Shifter script. You can use this to shift the aerial images to line up with the GPS layer.

Still no aerials of the M6 Toll at Cannock :frowning:

Hi,

Dodgy link Iain. Waze Aerial Shifter.

The only problem I have with that is what effect it has on surrounding areas/aerials…

Des. . .

Thanks Des - I’ve corrected my link above.

Please note that the script on Userscripts.org you have linked to does not work anymore, not since WME started to use something called OpenLayers (I think, but may be wrong with that name  ).

Hi,

Chrome… Not my choice but it’s installed somewhere…
