Don’t navigate. If you just turn Waze on and driver around without giving directions, it’ll tell you about incidents as you approach them. The downside is if there is an accident or major traffic on your route home, Waze won’t reroute you around it, because it doesn’t know where you’re going.
I drive to/from school all the time and when I get into my car to go to either one of them, I check the reports tab to see where the cops are and if there are any wrecks on my way home and will make a determination based on those two factors. I usually don’t use the navigation, because there are so many ways to get around the traffic here in San Antonio.
It works fine for me to still navigate, but hit Mute on the main menu. I do this often and still get alerts. That way you also get alerts for rerouting due to changing traffic conditions.
if you go into settings, then general or navigation
there is an option that says something like
“amount of navigation” and you can choose full, minimal, or none. What this is referencing is the amount speaking directions waze will do
When I use Mute from the main menu (not in settings), I still get audio saying “red light camera reported ahead” and “watch out, accident reported ahead.” Maybe I’m in the minority and not all app versions/platforms behave this way?
