L2 -> L1 Bristol

Could someone unlock https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=-2.60787&lat=51.45554&layers=12965&zoom=6&mode=0&mapProblemFilter=0&mapUpdateRequestFilter=0&venueFilter=2&segments=276358996,122037499,276358997,189331757,189331754,189331755,276358838,276358837,279558734,246626042 for me? The B4466 has an unbroken central reservation further to the southwest than currently modelled which means turns into the West End car park from the north east are currently wrong in the app.

Thanks,
Geoff

Downlocked.

A parking road passing through the car park navigation point would help with directions in/out of the car park too.

Thanks Ian,
can you take a look and see if what I’ve done looks OK? I think I’ve done what you intended…

Looks good.
Auto-locks restored.

I checked this on the live map once it had updated and a rogue turn restriction was leading to some horrible route including going through the car park! I corrected the turn restriction and broke the road through the car park into two legs.
Now the situation is improved but is still not right. Approaching from the east now works correctly with routing over the bridge:
https://www.waze.com/livemap?zoom=15&lat=51.45555&lon=-2.60636&from_lat=51.45555&from_lon=-2.60636&to_lat=51.45573&to_lon=-2.60943&at_req=0&at_text=Now
However, routing from the west ignores the obvious entrance and loops around the Triangle to use the bridge again:
https://www.waze.com/livemap?zoom=17&lat=51.45382&lon=-2.61307&from_lat=51.45381&from_lon=-2.61307&to_lat=51.45573&to_lon=-2.60943&at_req=0&at_text=Now

Was my breaking of the road in the car park inappropriate? Can you see why the obvious entrance is being ignored?

Thanks!

Waze should always navigate to the road nearest to the “navigation park” for the car park landmark/place. Although it looks to my eye to be pretty much halfway between the two parking roads, it seems that it is actually a pixel or so closer to the parking road accessed via the bridge. Therefore at present, Waze will always seek to use that entrance to the car park.

The solution to this would be to join the two parking roads back together, so that either can be used to reach the nearest point on the mapped road system to the car park navigation point.

Waze should almost never navigate along parking roads to complete a through route linking two streets, so you shouldn’t get navigation right through the car park with the roads joined.

The reason I say “almost” never is that routing works on penalties. Using a parking road (or a private road) invokes a massive penalty, such that a route of perhaps 10 minutes longer using only streets would be preferred. However, the penalty is not infinite, so it is theoretically possible that Waze will recommend a short cut through a car park in extreme circumstances.

That would probably make sense, I think the incorrect turn restriction left the destination unreachable other than via the car park. I’ve re-linked the road in the car park, hopefully that will have the desired effect.

Thanks
