L4: "continue straight" at a roundabout

Coming up this sliproad to head north, waze instructs:

  • at the southerly roundabout: “at the roundabout, continue straight onto A702 - Biggar Rd”
  • at the northerly roundabout: “at the roundabout, take 1st exit onto A702 - Biggar Rd”

Why does the first instruction say, “continue straight” ? It should say, “take the second exit”.

Using these roundabouts to change from driving east on the A702 to driving west, the directions are:

  • exit left onto Lothianburn Junction to A702
  • at the roundabout, take 2nd exit onto A702 - Biggar Rd
  • at the roundabout, turn right onto A702 - Biggar Rd
  • exit left onto A720 (W)

That “turn right” should be “take the second exit”.

Thanks.

This explains the science behind roundabout instructions:

Thanks, that’s interesting.

Since the A702 Biggar Rd proceeds both north and south from these roundabouts, directions such as “continue straight onto A702 - Biggar Rd” and “turn right onto A702 - Biggar Rd” are ambiguous.

Can the nodes be fiddled enough to force waze to say, “take the second exit” ?

Simple answer, yes. Basically the default is “take the x exit” It is only if the 3 or 4 joining roads are each at 90deg to each other (+/- 10) the instruction gives the " turn right / left / straight over". This default is also the only option if any of the roads joining the roundabout are split into a Y.
If you use the roundabout script (WME RA Util), you can turn on the angles and see what is happening. If not, just moving one of the junction points so it is clearly not at 90deg with one of the others will do it. Don’t forget, with no tile update for a while it will be some time before you can confirm this has given the result you want.

Thanks. These segments are locked above my rank, which is why I’m asking for L4 help.

Sorry, got carried away with the explanation and didn’t even look at the specific roundabout.

Now I have, I am confused as it does give a “straight over” and under all the rules I understand it shouldn’t!!
I have made a few changes here to try and correct this, but we will have quite a wait until we can see if it worked.
