Waze suggests routes that avoid the tolls on the Garden State Parkway. Driving south toward exit 98 (Belmar/138E) the standard, legal route is to take the exit, pay the toll, loop around to 138. But Waze is sneakier and offers a toll-free alternative through the Monmouth Service Plaza commuter lot which directly connects to Belmar Blvd, another a convenient road to 138–only at no cost. I don’t think Waze wants to sanction toll avoidance…let’s keep this route between us.
Interesting. I’ve enclosed a permalink to WME for the problematic segment. I suspect the best way to handle this is to just make it a parking lot road. If for whatever reason that’s a problem alternative solutions would be to mark the road (or a piece of it at the northern ends) as either private or tolled, even though that’s not strictly true. These will cause Waze to treat it as just as expensive (monetarily, or for route purposes) to use this strip versus the regular exits, and then favor the regular exits because of the highway segments leading to them. I’m assuming this will not cause problems for legitimate usage of the commuter lots, as the street entrance will still be there, and the highway entrances would be for drivers who already accepted paying the toll.
I’m going to turn it to a parking lot road so this problem (with multiple reports already!) gets solved. If anyone has other suggestions, go ahead and spell them out!
I’m getting different results when pick different times of the day. Hence, people using this as a shortcut and use it to save time from traffic as well.
Does it really matter why? Or are you saying Waze is only routing that way when there is heavy traffic on the surrounding roadway? I don’t know if the change has kicked in yet.
Some of those ramps used wrong. That’s one of the reason why Waze is routing such way. And yes, When I checked on the “Live map” with different time of the day, I get different results.
