This intersection has been discussed before, but its current configuration continues to raise UR and create confusion. In its current configuration, the app gives no notice of the transition from I-495N to I-95N. This is confusing while driving; there should be instructions such as “bear left to I-95 N”. It’s even more confusing when looking at the route listing, where no mention is made of I-95.
This is a L4 segment, but the decision about how to handle this should be made by top-level editors.
Upon further review, I’m not really convinced a Wayfinder is needed. Just prior to the merge into I-95, there is a rather large sign that advises the driver they are on a different freeway now.
Wayfinders are not a replacement for drivers actually looking out the windshield and reading signs.
However, I am talking to Wayfinder experts about it.
I’m with dmcrandall on this… Not totally convinced one is needed. There are several large signs indicating the name change. There is also no way to confuse exit numbers - on I-495, the last few exits are 54 & 55 - the first exit on I-95 is 60, so it’s not like you don’t know which exit 54 to take. The only possible exit number issue is at the state border where exit numbers reset, but this is no different than any other state border, and the lower numbers are not near each other, so no confusion there either.
My chief complaint is that the route list in the app completely omits I-95. It appears that one drives on I-495 to I-295 (in Maine). No other GPS program has this issue.
