My Level: 3
Reason for request: There are two exits from the M8 within a very short distance here both with similar names (A803 Cathedral and A803 Springburn). With both having similar turn instructions and the UR here showing the issue, would it be better if the segment in the permalink below had a KL/KR instruction. Lane 1&2 are for the A803 Cathedral exit so a KR/RL probably should be given here anyway. This would then give users being routed to the A803 Springburn exit a KR instruction prior to their eixt, which may help with instances as raised in the UR.

The keep left/keep right doesn’t make sense to me but I’m open to persuasion. My attempt to resolve this is to drag the exit left point to the gantry at the first instance of the ramp destination (Cathedral). This should give people loads of time to get in the correct lane.
I have done this so we’ll see what happens in a few days. If it is still causing issues, we’ll have to come up with a plan b.
Hi Kieran
I think the confusion at this junction is that some users being directed to take the second A803 exit (Springburn) are hearing “Exit to the left onto A803 - Springburn” but they’re seeing the first A803 exit (Cathedral) and taking that one, which is the wrong one. The two exits are in close proximity and have the same road number on the gantry, which is confusing. I don’t think moving the exit left point alone will resolve the issue as users wanting the second exit are going to be given their exit left instruction prior to physically passing the first exit.
There are five lanes approaching this junction and lanes 1&2 both exit onto A803 - Cathedral. The exit onto A803 - Springburn is a short distance past the first exit and a large number of users, including users just wanting to stay on the M8, are going to need to keep out of lanes 1&2 in order to be routed correctly.
If the issue with these two exits is not enough to warrant a keep left/keep right, consider traffic joining (westbound) at junction 14 and proceeding along the M8. These users are going to have to move over to the right to avoid coming off at J15 - a keep right instruction should be given here.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks
Andrew
