[hide]After looking around in Rock Springs, I noticed that several Street segments are locked at an L3. I assume this was the work of a territorial editor or perhaps an attempt to prevent vandalism. In either case, does Wyoming follow the standard for lock levels?[/hide]
The locks are in place to prevent lower ranking editors from making unneeded changes and also to prevent damage to the map. Wyoming is a big state with very few dedicated editors. It would not be difficult for an outsider or a new editor to begin editing without my knowledge. As you said yourself, you have already begun locking segments to prevent this sort of thing.
Many states use a similar locking standard. The Wyoming policy is based on the country standard. As I have said numerous times, I will make myself available to you or any editor who needs an unlock. That is what I am here for. The means of communication to reach me are plentiful. I encourage you to get with me directly if you have any concerns.
And the segment PL you listed was a FWY segment I drew to get the attention of a new editor not responding to chat. It is gone now.
I definitely understand the need and the reason for the locks. Gets a bit tedious though to have to request unlocks for entire roads/areas, especially now that we can add speed limits to all of the roads.
That being said, I didn’t mean to sound ungrateful for the help you’ve given so far - I do appreciate it!
If I remember correctly, most of the Wyoming editors are fairly inexperienced, and there aren’t many of us. I think it’s appropriate to have no segments locked higher than L4 since our state manager (@TheChrisK) is only at L4. He has been responsive to unlock requests, but I have no idea how he finds so much time to dedicate to Waze. I think it would be good if more segments were accessible to lower level editors, perhaps mH at L2 and MH at L3. It would be nice if being a resident of a state allowed you to edit a segment at 1 level below its lock (so an L3 segment in Wyoming could be edited by an L2 Wyoming resident, based on home address in Waze).
