Long Island Sound ferries

As discussed in this post, Waze is inexplicably selecting routes that use the ferries over much faster routes that use the Throgs Neck Bridge, even when the land route is considered by the routing engine as one of the alternatives. Further, Waze is routing over PLRs at the ferry entrances to do this!

Evidently, there is some bug in the routing engine. As a workaround, could someone please disconnect the ferries from the PLRs at the Orient Point and Port Jefferson terminals to make it impossible for Waze to use these as valid routes? Thanks.

I am not sure disconnecting the ferry routes is the correct procedure here
This needs to be discussed in Hangouts further before any action like this is taken

If there is a proven problem with the routing we need to investigate this and report it to staff to be fixed. Disconnecting is am extreme measures which we should not do at this point. Also if we disconnect it wet won’t be able to replicate the bad routing for staff, and they won’t be able to diagnose and fix the bug.

If you can give specific details like URs, or exact dates and times of affected ropes, and send debug logs for staff review, I can pass it to staff.

We did have a bug before where ferry segments were not being used, that was when we were changing the type. But that bug has now been fixed, with details we can get this fixed too.

There been sporadic reports along the NY/VT ferry routes too of choosing ferries over alternative routes.

Afraid I can’t, other than the Livemap routing links posted in the other thread. I became aware of this from a UR posted in Westchester County complaining about routing from Greenwich, CT to Southold, NY; the Livemap tests verify what the reporter said, but of course since they reported in Westchester there is no relevant route data included with their report.

BTW, at a minimum the New London — Orient Point ferry ought to have a TBSR put on it. Based on the schedule available at https://www.longislandferry.com/Schedules/Schedules.aspx, there are no ferry departures between 9:45 pm and 6:30 am (and some days there are fewer runs, but of course we can’t adjust the restrictions every day as a practical matter).

I can absolutely add the restrictions, and if you can forward specific details of problem routes I’ll pass them to staff
