I would like to get rid of this bow tied section. I can not see any reason for it. Normally we put in a bow tie to get around the issue of not being able to allow u turns, but at the point of the bow tie here, there is no u turn, so it is unnecessary and just a complication.
So unless there is another reason for having the bow tie, please drop the level so I can adjust both sides of Mains Road.
And also, the permalink has been set for the three settings glomp wants
Actually, to make it easier for simple unlock requests to be done from a phone, it is better to have turned on the following layers at a minimum - Aerial Images & Roads
The Cities, Area Managers & Editable Areas layers dim the screen making it harder to see what is selected.
The Places layer can be selected if you need any unlocks on them.
Sorry if it seems to be a bit confusing, it’s not really a problem when we are at computer as we can easily turn off the layers we don’t need, from a phone is a bit harder.
This way you can keep your editing flow going if we can do unlock requests from a phone for you instead of waiting till we are back on a computer.
ispyisail- Yes I have seen those links, but still so much information. We debated quite a bit of this when discussing what to do at South Pine Road/Stafford Road/Griffith Street intersection at Everton Park Brisbane.
Ispyisail- Mains Road at Sunnybank is dual carriageway for the most part, and is two or more lanes. In the section I am wanting to change, all I am wanting to do is change it from a bow tie to straight lanes (get rid of the bow tie).
Editors on here have discussed the issue of whether to change split roads back to single roads, or not, and decided that for the most part it is not worth the hassle, unless we receive a user report about it. But in this case I want to remove the bow tie, which is the work around for a non existent u turn.
So please give me level two access.
glomp- Satellite imagery and roads as a minimum done. Ok I can do that and will
I know I might be stating the obvious, but I need the whole intersection unlocked to be able to change the bow tie, not just the one highlighted section.
Bow tie has now been eliminated. I can not correct the red arrow turn in/turn outs where the intersections meet the level 3 sections. And the area will need to be re-locked. I did do a lot of reading through the wiki on bow ties before making a decision on what to do, but interestingly I could not find anything on how to undo a bow tie after being created.
Now just to give fair warning, because we are having so much fun with this that another undoing of a bow tie is coming near here. At the intersection of Lister St and Sunnybrae. It is south of this one. I thought you might want to get in front of me and start unlocking it whist I work on this part.
Working on it. I think I am going to get a response in return here of either, we have both learnt something, or more likely, this is why bow ties are used. I have just realised at Lister and Sunnybrae that after getting rid of the bow tie and correcting all the possible red arrows, that it is now possible for a driver to do a u turn, hmm. Which was not possible before with the bow tie.
I thought the red little u turn sign would come up on the right hand inside section. Wondering why it has not? Have I done something wrong?
On the elevation front- I have increased the elevation to +1 to account for going over the railway track. Once again, just like at McCullough through to Turton, I will need the other ends of Lister and Sunnybrae parts of Mains Road level 3 unlocked segments so I can fix up the arrows.
Also, whilst we are here, I know you are from WA glomp, so this question might be difficult for a non local, but are you able to explain why Lister St is a primary st and Sunnybrae is a Street?
With a divided road, where all turns are enabled, you will need to make the connecting road less than 14m to stop Waze from performing a u-turn when routing. The u-turn symbol is when the road is a two-way road(or segment), you can’t perform a legal u-turn on a one-way street.
In removing the bow-tie you deleted the original sections of Mains Rd.
In doing that, all the speed related data Waze has for those segments have been lost. Things such as how long it takes to travel its length or the time a turn takes, now needs to be relearnt by Waze.
Whenever possible you must reuse the existing segments. If you are dividing a road, you split the segment into two and then set each segment to the appropriate one-way direction. This will still retain the speed data.
You only need to set the elevations on the segments that go over the railway, all the rest of the road should be set at ground level.
The other sections of Mains Rd were dropped to L2 as per the previous request.
Lister St is a primary road type due to is functional classification. It appears to be a distributor road and has more importance, Sunnybrae St is just a local road.
Distributor roads move traffic from local roads to the higher functional classification roads such as highways. The basics of functional classification are the same for all roads, its just how each state applies it to their road network.
You will need to check what is available for Queensland with regards to how they classify the road network there.
That is the primary reason why I was encouraging you down the single carriage path.
I think this statement is partially true.
From my understanding waze works on a penalty system. less that 14m will create a high penalty but not an impossibility. That is why I encourage single carriage as a better solution.
Does Australia have a U turn policy?
Some countries ban there use use, others have all of then enabled, while others use them sparingly?
From memory the last correspondence in Australia was they are still banned or highly discouraged in Australia?
I would like to quote each reply, but this is getting quite a mess. So I will just respond.
In Australia- u turns are completely and absolutely forbidden. Interestingly, every single editor can allow them in the editing system, but WAZE Australia has stated that they are not to be used. This is something that is trying to be over-turned.
In regards to removing the bow tie, how I added the new segment and deleted the old road. I attempted to many other work arounds and did read wiki after wiki’s, but could not find about adding a node point, or how to do what I was wanting to do.
And this brings up a key issue with the wiki’s that I have found. That whilst high level editors seems to rave about how great they are, I have found them quite often next to useless in the editing process. Either there is too much information as a whole, so attempting to find something specific feels like a hopeless task, or that the information provided is of a general nature for light reading, when you are after a specific answer.
For instance, I was after how to remove a bow tie, change the segments, retain the speed data and keep it dual carriage way. In my opinion this process would seem like it would have been done before and should be explained. But it was missing. So I did the best option I could.
Another point. High level editors on here seem to quite often forget that lower level editors do not have access to the same level of options as high level editors. For instance, it is quite possible that I do not have the option to add a node in the middle of a segment, so I can not just split a segment into two different segments, which is what I am being asked to do at Lister Street.
I find the more I try to learn to edit, the more I get confused, rather than the way it should be. Which is that it should become less confusing.
