Is there a way to create or add map colors to Waze ?
The reason is that I would like to use a higher contrast color panel in order to be able to reduce screen brightness. Indeed, this may help to reduce battery drain by the app.

It should be possible since there are people who made a layout in ingress style… I’ll have a look on how they did it… Never looked for it or had a reason for it… I’m pretty happy with the map editors lay out in the client…

Never done it myself but just looked at the files and I think you should start looking at the following location:
/mnt/sdcard/waze/skins/default/
= SD card, folder Waze, subfolder Skins 
The text file I found (waze/skins/default/day/12/schema) is verry clear if you open it 
I suggest you make a copy of a day folder to a high number (copy 12 to 60) (to prevent it from being overwritten by future updates) and start making some small changes to the file and see if it has an effect in Waze itself If this works, feel free to tryout what ever you want
Remember to take a backup from the mnt/sdcard/waze/history file for the case waze is totally fucked up and you need to reinstall waze

darkneon is the name of the belgian wazer who made an ingress theme… Maybe you can get in touch with him, or he can interact here on how he did the his recent theming…

There are a couple threads about custom skins already. Search “color schemes” and look for an older thread by that name.
you can open the scheme file in any text editor (i did everything on my SG Note with ES File explorer)
Waze uses web Hex color codes to define the colors for the road types, you find those here http://www.colorhexa.com/
make sure you don’t put a space behind the colorcode or waze might crash or atleast show wrong colors.

Things you cannot change without breaking the waze APK: roadsigns(purple in my screenshots), the reroute colorlabels (1 purple,2 green,3 blue)
I forgot to mention that after every Waze update you will have to reinstall your scheme.
Edit one of the scheme files in the numbered folders or the night folder
Ex. /Waze/skins/default/day/1
