I’ve read through the wiki guides on map editing but the etiquette of map editing isn’t really covered.
There are a number of very minor map issues in my home area. For example; roads that have been separated into two one-way roads when really they should be one two-way road. Also a number of incorrect road types.
The users that have created and updated these roads are higher level than my self, which isn’t hard with me being a level 1. Is it appropriate for me to correct these? As things are the directions will still work, it just doesn’t follow the guidance set-out in the wiki. More obvious errors such as incorrect turning restrictions I have changed as these would obviously impact the end user.
After going through the wiki and also driving these roads almost daily I’m positive it’s the correct thing to do. I was just wondering whether it’s the right thing for me to do?

I know exactly where you are coming from on this. As a relative newbie I sometimes find something that, as you say, is against the wiki, but otherwise OK or realistic. For example I recently came across a car park with all lanes completed. Following the wiki I wouldn’t do this but am I, a lowly level 1 with 1k edits, right to undo the work of a 100k edit level 4? Do they know something I don’t for example?
There have been other higher level edits which were just wrong so I have fixed these but I don’t want to be stepping on anyone’s toes.
In the first place, I would suggest sending a PM to the editor in question and ask. Or you can post a permalink here on the forums and ask for advice.
Bear in mind that many higher-level editors can access a much larger area. Their name may, for example, appear on a split carriageway because they “passed through” setting the road names correctly without necessarily reviewing every stretch to see whether it should be unsplit. If you do decide to upsplit a section there is a specific method on the Wiki to do so without losing the historical speed data associated with the segments.
If the edits are old, remember that all higher-level editors started off where you are. I have no doubt that there are a few “mistakes” around with my name on them from when I started. :lol:
We’re all guilty of that, but it’s not just that – things change. So what’s in the wiki now may not be the way we did things in the past. So things that are now definitely wrong may not have been wrong when the editor did them.
