Want to meet your mentees for some impactful editing over food and drinks? Mentoring Cafes are back!
What are Mentoring Cafes, in a nutshell?
A combination of Waze Cafes and Mentoring
You can request a budget to meet up to 3 of your mentees face to face, for a mentoring session full of food and drinks, and get reimbursed for it, by the end of 2025!
Each community can have one mentoring cafe, by the end of 2025! Talk to us if you want more.
A mentor can hold a Mentoring Cafe with 1-3 (one, two or three) mentees, who are editors of levels 1-3
Expect a response from the team in 2-8 working days.
Please don’t have the session before you hear back from staff - we can’t guarantee that you’ll get reimbursed for a session that wasn’t approved.
What details should the mentor share in the request?
Usernames and levels of mentee and mentor
Estimated date for the Mentoring Cafe
Mentee’s current editing status
Prior mentoring with the mentee
Your expectations for the session
Let’s talk about money!
The budget is $50 per person, in a 1:1 session
The mentor pays the bill, and submits a digitized receipt to Waze, for reimbursement - if you request a session and have it approved, you’ll get more details about this part.
So, want to have a Mentoring Cafe with a motivated and promising mentee? Submit your request through this form!
Thanks and have a great day,
The Waze Communities team.
We’d also like to have more than one (at least 2, but 4 would be amazing!).
Colombia is a big country and our community has grown in the last year. This would be a great opportunity to strengthen ties and make mentees feel more committed.
Absolutely! Organizing four Mentoring Cafés in Colombia would be an excellent decision.
Given our geographical spread and the remarkable growth of the Wazer community in the last year, these meetings between mentees and mentors are a key opportunity to strengthen our ties and increase the commitment of all participants.
Our budget for 2025 is limited, and we’d like to have as many communities as possible enjoy it.
So here’s what I suggest:
Let’s start with a single event per community.
If we see that around October, other communities aren’t interested in holding Mentoring Cafes, and the budget allows it, we’ll be able to approve another Mentoring Cafes for communities who already hosted one (@david-rios-r we proably won’t be able to approve 4 ).
If you’re on board with this plan, you can go ahead and start planning the Mentoring Cafe! Don’t forget to submit the form when you have all the details.
Happy to share that for 2025 we’ll be able to approve this option as well
The Communities team wants to find the format thats fits your mentoring need, so we can be flexible with the guidelines, as long as:
Are Mentoring Cafes impactful? @RafaCintron recently had one, and here’s what he had to say: “We started at 9:30 and finished at 15:00. All that time was spent talking about Waze topics. The mentees asked tons of question, and are now a lot more knowledgeable than before.”
One of the mentees who attended, shared this: “I was able to learn more in depth of entry points, segments, transitions, as well as good practices, the importance of consciousness when editing and the impact we have as editors for our country, our users and the Waze Community.”
We believe they are impactful, and would love to see more communities enjoy them!

We’re hearing from those who led Mentoring Cafes that they are very impactful!
Here’s what @draguv shared - “The meeting was productive, with constructive discussions about map editing and ways to improve it.”
