Michigan To Do List

Do we want/need a To Do list for Michigan?

Are there any standards that we need to collect in one place and maybe a review to see if everything is consistent?

I’m in Southeast Michigan but travel all over the place and was wondering what I should be looking for. Currently, I’m still learning how everything works. I just starting to look for new subdivisions in my area and mis-marked road segments.

I also try to look at all the URs and System Errors, but sometimes I don’t kow what the correct answer is.

Take a look at what CT did here: http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/To_Do_-_Connecticut

We did basically the same in IL: http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/To_Do_-_Illinois#State_Highways

It is nice to have, I can edit at home, save a URL where I left off and continue at work.

Thanks for the information.

I have some projects in mind, so I will create a new Wiki page as soon as I get some free time. Hopefully, that will be this weekend.

My apologies for resurrecting a dead thread, but I don’t believe that a duplicate post for a To Do list would be necessary for the state forum. So, now that I’ve broken the forum rules…

I’ve edited the To Do List on the Michigan wiki page with links to various Google spreadsheets. I think that the spreadsheet format is less cumbersome than wiki editing seen in the prior examples. At this point, we also have the To Do List section on the Michigan Mapping Resources page anyway, so it’s a good place to put a number of consolidated links.

In addition to the NFC Inventory already on the list, I added links for consistency for freeways as well as the state and intercounty highway (not county road) systems. The state and county highway sheet has two tabs. The state highway naming convention was set forth in this thread, and the county highway naming convention and road type were discussed in this thread.

In summary, any reference to “State Hwy” should go away in favor of “M-###” (i.e. M-14), and the road type is minimally minor highway but may be higher depending on functional classification. The bulk of the state highway work is already done, so this is more for verification, but I still see occasional references to the former names. The intercounty highway system, on the other hand, is not nearly as complete, and a lot of these names will be alternates rather than primary but would still be good to change. As with state highways, county highways should minimally be minor highway unless typed higher due to functional classification.

As noted on the state wiki, the sheets will allow anonymous users to comment, but for the ability to edit the sheets, just send me a PM or request via the spreadsheet itself.
