New Delaware Wiki Page

In case you haven’t noticed the announcement here, there is a new Delaware wiki page in need of editing. Please volunteer to make changes and add your Area Manager info at the bottom.

Great. Since the Government is shutdown, I suddenly find myself with a lot of free time…thanks for the heads up!

I just started a list of mapping resources at https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Delaware#Mapping_Resources
Please join in

following this discussion of Using external sources I have added a warning against using this information to create information in Waze. Instead, I suggest any wazer could ask the state or counties in DE to use a copyright statemenat that makes this information freely available — but then we still have to wait for the Waze team to tell us it is OK to use it, I guess…

I created a template for the northeast region using these guidelines so they can easily be added to any state wiki page. Feel free to check it out and put it on your individual state pages.

I would like to get the Delaware Wiki page up to current standards. Would anyone like to handle making the edits? Does anyone have any updates they feel need to be made?

I can help with wiki-template work

You want this done the way New York is done, with the new templates? This won’t change the content. It will just move it to sub pages and order the state page in a common way. It should also make it easier to maintain tabular information, once the info currently there is converted to the new format. I think I start by putting the new template in place and plunking everything I main, then moving stuff into the new template subpages one easy chunk at a time, but I will check in with PesachZ to make sure. I’m sure he’ll point me to any how-to pages I might have missed.

I like the NY page.

The more difficult part of this will be the policy bits. Like voludu2, your question elsewhere about how to name cites on road segments. That should be in the wiki but there’s really no definition yet on how that should be done in Delaware.

I’d also like to see a construction project spreadsheet similar to what Maryland has done to track those closures. However, if we’re all comfortable editing the wiki (I am) and Delaware doesn’t have all that many, it might be OK to track them on the wiki page itself. Something else to discuss.

I did most of the work on the new NY page using the templates. If you have any specific questions, or need help feel free to reach out.

We have a wiki page tracking recurring closures using a template which is fairly easy to use. Take a look. It is on a subpage of the closures section at New York/Closures.

I’m going to take a crack at this and keep closures entered and updated. Thankfully if I mess up the wiki, it’s easily reversed – unlike map editing! The only negative of the wiki for closures I see is, it’s a bit intimidating to some over a spreadsheet, although it’s not bad as long as you know to stay in between the lines! I know voludu2 isn’t afraid of it at least!

I do have a suggestion @PesachZ. Delaware could use some more champ help. Ole orbitc is RC for two regions including some of the countries biggest cities, so Delaware is probably like an annoying wart on his big toe. (I honestly don’t know how he finds the time, I feel bad about pestering him at times…) So, we could sure use another champ to adopt us!

OK, so much for my bravado. Perhaps I could use a hand after all.

Please delete my mistaken “backup” page in the main hierarchy named Delaware_Backup… Sigh… Here’s the deletion link.

https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/index.php?title=Delaware_Backup&action=delete

I created a copy of the current Delaware page in my own user area:

https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/User:Poncewattle/Delaware_Backup

I looked at the source for the state template NY uses. Looks like I have to run some PHP script to create the page but it’s not clear if it will replace the current page or the current page has to be deleted first. Could you advise or do that process to create the empty template? Then I’ll go in and incorporate stuff from the backup copy I made and then start adding new stuff including the closure part.

Thanks!

I added the {{ToDelete}} template to the page, a wiki admin will have to delete it. This helps them find it when do their sweeps.

NY uses the standard state template, no php needed. In order to use it, it has to be setup in the main space as a subpage of the states page, and the name must start with test.so for example you can set it up at [[Delaware/Test template]]. To learn more about how it works read the talk page and related forum for the main state template page [[USA/CommonState]]

OK, thanks. That page is what I really needed. Glad I asked. I was looking at the comments in the source for the main NY page. Not really helpful.

I got the test page up, will work on filling it in with data from the main page now.

Edit: You may want to look at the area manager section @PesachZ … Let me know if you object to your adopted status

Edit: OK, it’s done. Also added in the Northeast locking standard data. Would appreciate a few eyes looking it over before I move it over the live Delaware page. Thanks.

Thanks for getting that started. I added an intro page (with links to the DE forum) – please be sure to move it along with all the other moves. I made a small change in the cameras section.

I think it looks pretty good.

You may want to copy the places locking standard from the NY page

In the mapping resources section, a few comments.

 1. In inrernal wikilinks the underscore (_) is not necessary, a space ( ) works just as well. I updated the link to look better to Using external sources.

 2. the idea of living to the external page is good, and perhaps should be suggested to be included on the main template, however it’s not a good idea to quote the content, it makes it harder to make when there are changes. It’s better to link with a brief description, and let users go there for the details.

 3. are you trying to say that all these listed resources are forbidden, including the using the contact information to the local agencies to ask questions? Answers you get from conversations are not copyright.

Thanks. I didn’t copy over the links to the Delaware forum (that you added to the intro section) originally because it’s part of the template code already. See the community section. So I suggest it be removed unless you think it should be mentioned in there twice.

I also linked in that Community section to your new editor welcome section. If that ever gets put into the main wiki we’ll have to remember to move it from here too. (I don’t know if there’s a policy against linking to personal wiki pages from the main section)

A little confused. I had already included it, it’s actually template code from the New York page…
==== Locking standard ====

{{:USA/Northeast/Locking standard}}
Are you saying I should copy the content over instead?

That’s the segment locking standard, I’m talking about the Places locking standard in the places section.
