New Guidance on Road Type Selection

For those who may be following this Illinois Forum, please read this post:
New Guidance for Road Types

I have started changing a few roads already that you may see to follow the Illinois Functional Classification map. I’ll move to down state to get into there, since there are more editors in the Chicagoland area. If you need unlocks to change a road segment, you can follow the rules in US Unlock/Update Requests. Mention you need it unlocked for a reclassification to meet the Functional Classification and I’m sure anybody who can, will unlock it for you. I’ll keep my eye open for them too.

If you have questions, PM me and I’ll try to answer them. If I can’t get you an answer, I’ll find one.

This is helpful, thanks for posting this. Can someone create a chart to compare the colors on the gettingaroundillinois.com colors and Waze’s? It would be really helpful for a quick reference.

I thought about it, just haven’t tried to. The only thing, some US routes do have a FC of a Major Collector (Pink), but since it is a US route, it goes to at least a Major Highway. Same with state routes, where they are at least a minor highway. I just don’t want everybody to adjust the road type just to the match the IDOT FC. It will be close, but there are differences.

Take a look at Illinois Roads by type and see what you think. I took the US chart and colored the road types to match IDOT FC coloring.

I’ve begun working on the NW Indiana upgrades to match the Roads-by-type functional classification. If we have some Chicago area editors that could focus some of their efforts in the Chicago “southland” area, that would help. I haven’t looked much at the IL FC maps, but I would be curious if there are discrepancies at the state line connections between IL & IN. Let me know if you see any. I’ve done all of the Major Hwy upgrades near the state line and many/most of the Minor Hwy ones. It would be nice if we can bring consistency to this heavily traveled corridor.

Almost done with all the US routes in Illinois. I’ll watch that as I work around that area.
