Hi Waze editors.
Just to keep you informed of the the upcoming changes to Waze regarding the new feature of automatic Street/Road Traffic locks.
This new feature is currently being rolled out globally. Please read the forum link here to get an understanding of what it is and how it works.
The Australia Wiki has also been updated to include this link.
Will be interesting to see what locks come into effect, will show where most Wazers are driving.
I dare say the capital city with the largest Wazing community will be locked down very tightly and those with smaller communities will barely get locked.
So how will this effect the update request procedure? If the user lock can’t be lower then the auto lock does this mean roads auto locked at say a 5 can’t be lowered when requested on the forums for say even a 3 or a 4 to edit. Presmably though the high level auto lock shouldnt need updating.
I’m not sure yet… I’ll keep my eyes out in the GC forums on any discussions regarding it, but we’ll have to find out when it eventually hits Australia.

Waze aren’t really saying which countries and when this feature will go live in Australia or NZ.
There is much debate as to who the system overrides and what can we do if we need to specifically lock a segment at a level other than that set by the system. It’s becoming one of those ‘suck it and see’ type of enhancements. I’m personally not happy with it as we don’t entirely know what level can be overwritten.
Waze says yes, anyone with the appropriate UL can overwrite a road level set by the system. What they don’t say is how long this change stays for until the system resets the level.
Further to my last post, The following is where Waze stands on this topic (the excerpt was posted by one of the Waze staff). There is no word yet when the road ranks will be introduced to the Oceania region.
The road ranks system is adjustable, so that higher level users will be able to unlock the RR set by the system. Waze has not allowed for any special privileges for AMS, but please consider the following two related reasons that explain why this should not be an issue:
Looks like the automatic locks have come into the editor, I can see the automatic lock as an option under the lock levels but haven’t seen any above level 1. I don’t think Brisbane is active enough to get any high locks though. How do you Melbourne chaps look at the moment? I’m pretty sure you have the most active community in Australia.
Looks like there will be a few roads upgraded. Waze originally said they will not upgrade the level of a road if it already has a existing Lock level on it. Only Level-1 roads (that I have noticed) are converted across to Road Rank.
As such they haven’t activated the RR feature on the production server.
Have a look at the 2 maps of Brisbane below to get an idea of what is affected. First is the current production server with all Road locks shown from 2-6. 2nd picture is from the beta server with RR shown only.
