Hello,
This software is awsome. I like it so much.
Unfortunatelly… waze does’t support google maps.
I live in Indonesia… I think Indonesia is best covered by google map.
Hopefully you can put google map as an alternative to your default map.
Thank you… Once again… great software.
Google maps may be free to us but for companies to use it is a whole different ball game.
It’s actually not Google, it’s TeleAtlas (A.k.a Tom Tom) and Navteq (A.K.a Nokia). Google just packages it (and does it very well). The maps cost Google quite a lot and are still limited in functionality (such as navigation) by the map makers, due to that being much more expensive in costs.
I do like what Google maps has to offer. I am curious though will the color palette of Waze maps change? As much as i love to use Waze, i think that the map colors (white and grey/light blue) are very dull. I’m not sure if these colors matter that much to attracting users but sometimes when using Waze i just wish that the maps looked a little more like Google’s color scheme.
Anyone else understand or have similar thoughts to what im talking about?
Absolutely. I’ve heard (and lodged) multiple complaints about the map. I think allowing a colour scheme like Google’s, or Garmin’s, or TomTom’s… which all feature different colours for major road types, would allow for the client to shrink the absurdly thick lines it draws for them.
The thickness for Primary Street is great. That should be the thickness of everything from Secondary up to Freeway. As is, all the big roads bleed together absurdly when split.
Which of these makes more sense to you?

My suggestion: reduce the thickness of every road type above Primary Street to the current thickness of Primary Street. Keep Streets and Primary Streets white, make Secondary and Primary a different colour from those (perhaps yellow or orange), and make Freeways a different colour as well (blue?). Ramps could be green, as they are in the live map, and should be much, much thinner. This could improve map readability tenfold.
Although it doesn’t give much info to our color blind friends, unless there is also a gray scale difference related to the color.
Well, my proposal only includes three colours and white. A darker yellow or orange should be dark enough to differentiate from white, and the blue and green of freeways and ramps could be considerably darker than that. Plus, even if they look the same in grayscale, the (proposed) difference in line thickness would make confusion impossible.
I completely agree with you guys. Hopefully Fej is watching ![]()
Fej is always watching, and already adding it to the feature request list!
Indeed, but colors and UI is not my expertise and as such I leave it in the capable hands of the UI team.
Is the UI team reading this?
Well, some of my expertise includes cutting & pasting forum posts and links to email. I forwarded the stuff as suggestions, but it’s their call…
Hello…
So… how do you create maps for places outside USA?
Start driving around with Waze on.
After that, you can go back and look at your archived data and turn sections of it into roads, or you can turn on the create road option in the client, and it might make it a little easier.
UI team chime in! ![]()
Hi,
I have already reported 5 trips in France… But I really find this annoying not to have the roads on my map.
It’s difficult to change my trip into roads when I don’t know exactly where and what’s the name of those roads.
I would really love the guys from Waze to make a partnership with Google Maps… imagine all the possibilities.
I’m not going to waste a lot of time drawing the road maps of Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur because I already have them in Tomtom or Google Maps and they both work really well on my HTC Touch Pro 2.
Find a way to offer a better map support for foreign users and you’ll probably have more users willing to use it.
Google Maps isn’t free – they pay TeleAtlas a lot for those maps. Google makes it free for the end-user, but it isn’t free for any corporate user.
The maps we use in the states are Tiger Data from the US Census Bureau, and it’s just a basis–it’s pretty much useless without massive amounts of editing, so don’t envy us too much ![]()
If you can find an equivalent free map (completely free), I’m sure the waze team would be glad to implement it.
My suggestion would be a partnership with OpenStreetMap or augment Waze data with that, freely, available from the project.
That’s a licencing issue too, believe it or not. I checked OSM’s licence page, and any derivative work would have to remain under its same licence. That licence does not allow for Waze’s business model.
Besides, it’s more fun this way ![]()
