No Halloween Goodies This Year (anywhere) :-(

… according to this tweet I got from Waze !!

This is my first year Wazing. I had read about these “holiday goodies” and I was really looking forward to something a bit different from the normal Sat Nav experience.

Yea this sucks!

It obviously was just a little extra thing but it was fun. Random goodies would show up and I would drive there to get them if I had the time. I actually found a few places I didn’t even know where there because I was getting the road goodie.

I wonder what the reason is?

Things that helped to make Waze what it is today should be still available. You guys all know the saying… “If it aint broke, dont fix it!”

That’s one way to show “support” I suppose…

Resource availability. It isn’t a trivial matter to get goodies added to the map for the holidays and they are heads-down pounding out international infrastructure upgrade planning and testing, editor beta versions and client beta revs to get the v3.5 release out. Depending on how that goes, we may yet see some goodies for a (US?) holiday this year.

Not just US I hope, we want to join in the fun over here aswell !

You’d think in areas that hasn’t been explored say x-number of months with lack of users, they would give out say 500 points for driving to an area no one has for example. It would be fun…random points popping up so someone with free time (or just bored) can drive and make Waze even better.

As much as I love Waze it would be wonderful to have something more than just using a map, navigate, socialize, etc.

Do you still “prefer goodie munching” option in the app? It was supposed to be removed a month or two ago.

Time to update your client then. As Alan said, the option was removed a while back.

That option was the source of many headaches and all sorts of routing problems. What version of the app are you running? The effects of that option were also supposed to have been disabled on the server end, so that even users with unsupported older versions still wouldn’t be able to use it.

Via my iPhone 3GS.

Ws that actually confirmed about the server end being switched off?

It should have been removed from clients then when they realised that actually locked some people into using it (ie the option was removed whilst they had it enabled) it was subsequently disabled from the server side altogether.

It can’t be 3.5 then or someone has messed up at HQ. Honestly, this option has been out of android since 3.2 iirc.

It’s a country specific setting. So they might have forgotten to remove it for some other countries.

It should not affect routing btw, I’ve enabled this option in my preferences file (since it was removed from the NL GUI per our request), and I verified I got the same route with or without goodie munching enabled.

Ah ok, sorry I didn’t realise it was country specific, thought it was an entire server thing. Apologies

It should still be enabled for non-basemapped countries.

No, not any more:
