One of those "long roundabouts"

The UR comments explain the situation pretty well. What’s the current consensus on how to handle these?

This junction has switched back and forth between roundabout and not over the years… is it time to go back to being a roundabout?

If so can someone do it (pretty please)? I’d surely mess it up.

It’s signed like a roundabout, has approach markers like a roundabout, the brick pave banking is of a roundabout so I would say, roundabout. I can’t read the UR as it is out of my area and as such this is just my tuppence worth.

If you need to see a UR out of your area, sign out and enter play mode, you should be able to see it then.

Sign out? Is that not just wrong

Sausage roundabout… I like that!

So many edits have passed under the bridge since I last worked on that area… I don’t remember if I changed it from being a roundabout to normal segments, or if that had already been done and I just tidied things up a bit. I do recall there being some debate back then over whether or not it ought to be a roundabout - it’d be set up as one and then we’d get URs from users who found the roundabout-style directions confusing, so it’d then get changed to how it is currently and we’d then get URs from other users wondering why they weren’t getting roundabout-style guidance

I haven’t driven that stretch of road in over a year now, but thinking back to when it formed part of my daily commute, whilst it might have all the appearances of a roundabout (road markings, priority to the right, central island etc.) I never thought of it as a roundabout in terms of following a route through it. My personal opinion therefore is that it should probably stay as it is - there may be some scope to tweak the segment geometries a bit to force a keep left/right rather than a turn left/right or vice versa (I don’t know what the current directions provided by the client are, so this may not be an issue), but changing it back into a true roundabout will only serve to confuse/annoy a different set of users, and the URs will keep on rolling in.

I think this is just one of those road layouts where we can’t please all of the people all of the time, so unless changes need to be made because the directions given are completely wrong then we should probably just leave it alone until such time as someone either comes up with a brilliant new way to model such a junction that keeps everyone happy, or Waze provide us with new junction/segment types that makes modelling layouts like this a doddle. The former seems far more likely than the latter, but I ain’t holding my breath for either
