Place Update Requests (PUR's)

Perhaps we need a Map Raid to get these under control? There are about 50 more than a year old scattered around the UK. :frowning:

I used to think PUR’s a waste of time, and of course some of them are. But since I started keeping my own AM area clear of them, I’ve found quite a lot that are useful.

Sometimes they lead to me adding new roads, often parking roads but occasionally streets.

Sometimes people have added them because Google has a landmark in the wrong place (which Waze picks up and uses until we link it to a correctly located Waze place).

The UR-MP tracker script will help you find PUR’s in your editable area (and UR’s too of course).

I’ve been clearing loads of these in my editable area. I even ventured darn sarf after a visit to Worthing the other week and cleared the ones along my route, but yes I saw loads, frustratingly out of reach.

I think they’re pretty important given (I imagine) most people will use Waze to navigate to places. I also think it keeps the user involved and makes them feel they can contribute without spending hours each evening in front of a computer :?

I wish editing rights would be a bit more relaxed in Waze sometimes. Like a country manager can dish out tasks like this to a handful of willing, trusted volunteers, similar to a map raid but with less planning required.

I try to keep mine updated daily, TBH, once you’ve got them under control it’s normally on a 5-10min job each day as most place updates are usually easily dealt with or rejected.

100% cleared in my editable area, according to UR-MP tracker (apart from the 27 that have just appeared now!)
SteveSnail is right, once you’re on top of it it’s fairly easy to keep up.
I’ve found that most need a re-edit after approving (wrong category, incomplete address, location not in them middle of the road , picture of their dashboard/kids, spelling mistakes etc) and a significant number should be residential.

Jon

Not too many in my area as I’ve cleared most of them although I can see quite a lot in the surrounding areas I can’t edit.

Perhaps this could be expanded to a more general tidy up of questionable places?

Such as
full address in name
flats?, Street? what?
far too small to show in app
should be Residential
and that’s just what I’ve found in one small area.
Jon

Still 1400 unapproved PUR’s scattered across the country. Anyone bored over the Bank Holiday could perhaps help out…

BTW PUR’s can now have multiple navigation points, provided they are area places rather than point places. If you want to have multiple navigation points without the place & name appearing on the map, it’s fine (imho) to convert it from point to area but shrink the size so that it’s too small to display on the app.

Would love to but 1372 are outside my editable area

Jon

My home area mostly clear, I might have a look around other areas when I get a chance.

One of the most frustrating things about dealing with PURs is having to approve them first…then trying to correct the spelling, address, convert to residential etc, and getting the “while you were editing…” error

Rejected as inappropriate - political comment rather than navigational assistance - although I entirely agree with the sentiment

Bump!

Perhaps we could attack these while we’re in lockdown? Some PUR’s have been awaiting confirmation (or rejection) for over a year. :frowning:

None in my managed area that show up on UR-MP Tracking. Happy to help out elsewhere if area can be extended?

Unless you’re willing to expand editing areas they are all in-accessable

As more editors are now turning to PUR’s can I make a request that the details of a place are checked too? I’m seeing a lot of places recently approved/rejected by experienced editors that still have basic errors - incorrect catagories, no address, location in the centre of the street etc. It’s very rare you can just click Reject and move onto the next one!

Those that don’t already use WME Place Interface Enhancements will find it great for showing navigation points and the location of Google Links.

Happy to help if I get full editing rights to the whole of the UK. And Level 6
