I think I know the answer to this, but I’m going to ask anyway.
How do we deal with Play streets that are restricted to access only between 8am to Sunset?
This segment has been previously set to Private, but I had a UR saying they should be able to be routed through it, and indeed, the time of the report was 11.30pm.
There’s no way to set restrictions that repeat on an annual basis, so that theory is out. Any other ideas?
How much work do you want :?:
365 individual restrictions for each day seems like something a committed editor would do… white coat committed that is. How about average our each month and have 12 restrictions. Still a fair bit of work but possible.
You’d have to reapply them each year of course. I have a recollection that someone does this for London parks somewhere - found it on The Mall.
Urm, let me think about that. No.
Not for one little street anyway. Plus the additional complication with the access only restriction.
For major routes like The Mall, the effort is worth it as the number of URs we’d otherwise get would be even more insane than the amount of work required to maintain the restrictions…
For a quieter road such as the one in question here, I’d be tempted to adopt a one size fits all compromise solution - figure out when the latest sunset time is during the year for that part of the UK, then set a single permanent restriction which allows traffic to use the road only between that time and 0800 the following morning.
You might still get some URs raised during the evenings at times when sunset is earlier, but at least Waze would be given a chance to route through the road for some times of the day, rather than the current situation where it’ll never (truly exceptional situations aside) be used.
There probably is some way to maintain the access only exemption during the hours of operation (perhaps a variation on the London CCZ gates as developed by Iain), but for a road like this it’s questionable if it’s worth the effort.
