I keep coming across problems with the labelling of the ramps to/from the M8 in Glasgow. Most of these ramps are locked so I can’t fix the problem myself and need to make the request for them to be fixed here. I accompany these reports with links to the latest (Summer of 2012) Google Street View images of the overhead signage that would be used by drivers to help confirm they are on the right path.

  1. This ramp segment is labelled J19, when in fact it is J17!

I suggest it should be labelled:

M8 (E) J17 Exit to A82 Dumbarton

  1. This ramp segment has no label, but is the true J19 exit:

I suggest it should be labelled:

M8 (E) J19 Exit to City Centre

  1. M8 (W) J15 has two exit ramps that are close together and confusing both are labelled as just “M8 (W) J15 Exit” in Waze. This has lead to at least one driver getting confused, taking the wrong exit ramp and has submitted a UR that may still be visible in the map editor. Maybe this kind of problem would still occur since both ramps are indeed J15, but I think the followed edits may help improve the situation:

3a) For the first ramp segment:

There are probably many more similar problems, but these are all that I’ve had a chance to look into so far…

I’ve looked at these. Some of what you ask for is more a matter of personal choice for the local editors to agree. I take the J17/J19 point. I note this was done by (another) editor not from these parts and I have corrected it.

Thanks David. Yes this is why I held off. Most of the naming suggestions are excessive and way beyond wiki advice.

Thanks from me as well David - I was beginning to believe Waze when it was constantly telling me I was leaving the M8 at J19. I would have been happy with the simplest of corrections, such that both J17 and J19 were correctly labelled. The rest are merely suggestions to improve the navigation experience in what is quite a complicated section of motorway and I would have understood if they were rejected. However, it would have been nice if my research into these cases had at least resulted in some discussion so that I could begin to understand the reasoning why the advice is so and see why these circumstances are not exceptional.

Given the original naming suggestions are deemed excessive, can we at least have a label for the M8 (E) J19 exit ramp, of simply “M8 (E) J19 Exit” please?

Waze told the driver to take the second J15 exit, but the driver mistakenly took the first J15 exit and then complained that the turn wasn’t possible (because the driver had taken the wrong exit). Just simply saying J15 Exit isn’t sufficient here.

Thanks to leocylau for fixing the J15 exit ramps last week.

That just leaves us with the need for a label on the J19 exit ramp.
