Posting road closures

Hey team,

Local first responder here, looking for the best way to post wreaks and road closures in a timely manner, bonus if it doesn’t require me to be at the scene. Right now both require me to be on scene, and the RCs dont often get posted at all.

I know NCDOT has this ability/partnership, but I have no idea whom/how they do it, and often it doesn’t get done by them (or takes a while before its done).

This might require level 5 (I think) access, as personally one of my districts covers parts of US 1 in Franklin County, as well as multiple NC highways in several counties. Im fine going through a validation process, but the concern is timely response. Aka 3am sometimes for example.

If we can get this process figured out, Im also looking to share this with multiple other local depts. Its always helpful to have traffic redirected for our safety, as well as helping local drivers navigate around scenes.

Thanks!

Good morning.

The SAT community has a Discord server that we utilize for timely communications and for major road closures that don’t automatically close, and as far as North Carolina, we have a document that pulls information from the NCDOT database.

Please follow this link to the Discord server: https://discord.me/southatlantic

Continuing on CNY_STi’s comment Waze also has the Waze for Cities program that can assist you in regarding to getting closures added in your district. https://www.waze.com/wazeforcities/

I think waze for cities is what we will need. I will look further into that. Thank you

Unfortunately discord is not a good solution, as it maybe multiple people inputting data, and as a public official in this capacity, it falls afoul of some regulations. Again also, requires timely approvals, which I assume not everyone is going to be awake at 3am to approve such a thing.

Im aware of the NCDOT partnership, unfortunatly I have no idea how to put data to them, to get to Waze, and oftentimes when it is posted, its past the incident, or inaccurate information as its third party to local responders.

We understand the security concerns with Discord. If you have any concerns or questions you can email NC State managers at Contact@wazenc.us.

I am also in emergency services so feel free to message me directly any time.
