Hey there, I’m a level 2 map editor in Irvine. I was attempting to fix up a rather malformed intersection when I discovered that (just one) of the segments connected to the central intersection node is locked at level 4.
The problem is that since one of the segments is locked I can’t correct any of the turning allowances in the intersection, nor can I move the central node to a better (more central) position in the intersection. I’m a little mystified as to why that particular section of MacArthur is locked at level 4, when many other parts aren’t. If there is a particular reason for it to be locked then I suggest it should be locked more consistently and certain connecting segments be locked. Otherwise maybe it should just be unlocked altogether.
Either way, the intersection just needs a few fairly obvious bits of tidying up, so if y’all don’t think it’s a good idea to unlock it, then I’d request a level 4 please take a minute to fix it up. All that needs to be done is the central node centered a bit and most, if not all, turns allowed.
I have fixed a few things in the area. Please insure you have read the wiki (see my signature for a good starting place). And please read about when to split vs un-split. Also if you have gotten into the habit and now hooked into editing, you need to change your userid.
Thanks jemay! I appreciate you fixing things up for me. I do have one more question, if you don’t mind. After reading the wiki I’d been under the impression that a road that is almost entirely split shouldn’t have any random sections of un-split. When I ran into the problem I was actually splitting this section of road (since the entire rest of it was split).
I couldn’t see any reason why it shouldn’t be split. Was there a reason that it should have been? Was I wrong to try to split it? I suppose point 1 of the wiki would say don’t touch it, but point 3 would say change it. So which point is the more important? Thanks for your help!
And thanks for showing me how to change my userid! I’ve been wondering about that.
Because people have been splitting piece by piece or until they hit outside of their area or run into a locked segment. We have somebody trying to match with other map providers. It takes a lot of work to split a road… get all the turn correct, did you verify all the house numbers are correct. So in waze, when ever possible - simple is better!
No need to be split because all turns were handled correctly. Waze is a street navigation not a lane navigation tool.
Saying all of that… sometimes I just don’t have the time to fight the splits. So I am going to just leave what has been done. But if you think something needs split, please ask and we can discuss the finer points of why it should or should not be split.
