Remove 4x4 trail marked as regular road

Near Payson, off of Zane Grey Hwy NF-289

Segment ID 3240509

This segment of road should not exist as a drivable road - it cannot be driven by any common vehicle except some UTV’s and small 4x4 jeep. I have witnessed several vehicles attempt driving it because their map told them to and they got stuck and had to reverse out.

I tried removing, but I don’t have high enough editor level. Please, and Thank You!(unavailable attachment: 2024-07-30_08h35_08.png)

Webaddict,

Thanks for the post. Waze prevents untrusted editors from deleting things since, 9 times out of 10, deleting something is not the correct answer. You say you’ve witnessed vehicles attempting to drive it - did you interview these people that you witnessed and confirm Waze specifically routed them down this road? Since there aren’t many destinations or points of interest at the end of these roads, and since there’s another road that listed as a local street (and paved), Waze will always prefer the NF road. The exception would be when a user has specifically dropped a pin to navigate to along this road, or if their selected destination was along it (which, again, there’s none along it). As the road clearly exists (as evidenced by the fact that I can see it on imagery), removing this segment is not correct according to our editing guidelines. The road is already marked as “Off-road / Not maintained”, which means that Waze will not route users down it when they have the setting enabled to avoid long unpaved roadways.

My family has a cabin just above this area and we have close friends that were routed by Google to use this in-accessible segment. We have had to drive down there and pull them out with a UTV & winch, because the route is not accessible like it appears. There is also campground at the top of that segment, and this road appears to be the shortest path to it. It is a danger to normal vehicles. That is why it doesn’t qualify as a “drivable road”. I agree that Waze is not the problem, it is definitely Google Maps that defaults to this path. However please note there are hundreds of others trails just like this in the area that aren’t on the map. This one shouldn’t be either. I strongly encourage you to remove it as a road. Thank you for your consideration.
