Do closures in Waze now feed out to Google Maps?
North Wales has been hit by the storms twice in the past two weeks and ive been closing roads as the information has come to me, via Google Maps traffic data and the local Facebook pages.
When ive closed roads, Ive noticed they have become closed on Google maps too. Im not sure if they were coincidental, or if Waze was feeding the closures to Google maps.
Can someone enlighten me on this please?
Google does take some data, traffic speeds, closures, accident reports from Waze. How & if they confirm these from external sources I do not know.
I’ve noticed this also, so I think it does.
I put a 2 week closure on a minor road recently. It was not published on roadworks.org or the council website, or anything else I could find. I only knew of it from driving along that road and seeing the yellow sign showing notification of works.
The closure also appeared on Google Maps, the exact same segments that I had marked as closed in Waze. It even disappeared from Google Maps when I removed it from Waze after it finished early.
I have two large closures in my area:
One I requested beforehand here on the forum, and this one did not automatically move over to Google Maps. I had to tell GM several times of the closure before it appeared on the maps. The segments are also not similar to what’s in waze.
The other was placed after it was already started. I requested it here again, and shortly after ( < 1 day) it popped up in GM as well, same segments and everything.
So idk…
