Where would be the best place to raise a concern about Waze Closures mapping on Google.
The issue is when closures placed on Waze are subsequently removed, but Google doesn’t reflect. This then causes Google to show bad information and can leave to mainline route breaking navigation. I know you may say “It’s Google, Not Waze, tough luck”, but I hate to see my efforts break another app.
Here, as of 2.15pm 20th February the mainline A40 has closed the bit circled in red, and opened the bit in green. Waze reflects correctly, but Google, which took Waze’s closures but not Waze’s reopenings, now has both segments closed, this causes an 8 mile detour along B-roads on Google that are not suitable for lorries.
If you’re a member on discord, their is a Google Maps requests channel under the Waze USA section. Some of the editors on that channel are senior GM Editors and can assist. Check the discord channel in your area and see if their is a UK Google Maps request channel.
Hi – I spoke to a Google Maps (Geo) VP this weekend about this issue. They released an update over the last two weeks on their side that is supposed to make this better and check for these ‘signals’ between Waze & Google much more often.
Can you share a permalink of this particular area so I can send it to him? He’ll check on specifics and if they spot an issue, it’ll let them continue tweaking the back-end to make this much more accurate & real-time. Thank you!
Thanks for flagging this! This is a little tricky because it’s hard to know for sure if the closures are from Waze, or from other sources. We are working on a process to better identify these. In the meantime if you see any issues please report them, and we’ll try to investigate - The forum is a good place to start.
Google Maps has confirmed that with the fix they’ve rolled out in the US for faster propagation of closure information between Waze & GMaps, this closure would have been removed much faster (within minutes of it being removed in Waze).
They’ll be rolling out the same fix across other non-US environments very soon.
