Road Closures : instructions

As we are using the Road Closures function for quite some time now, we think it’s time to spread the word, for those who haven’t heard it yet…
As this feature can have a great immediate impact to the routing of Waze, we think it’s best to start with a closed group of people who can input or transfer the road closures to Waze Staff.
We do think all of the editors should be able to work on road closures and help the community in getting this great service. We would also like to communicate about this nice road closure feature via social media, if wanted.
For this, we have made some tools.

  1. An overview of what events are inputted, is being worked on, or are known but not inputted yet:
    http://bit.ly/WBRCOverview

  2. A format of a spreadsheet you can use to communicate / provide the needed information to add the road closures to the (live) map:
    http://bit.ly/WBRCFormat
It’s adviced you make a copy of this spreadsheet and provide a link to yours in the overview spreadsheet.
The information asked in the ‘Format’-spreadsheet is all we need to be able to add the road closure to the (live)map.

If you need any extra information, don’t hesitate to contact me.
All suggestions to optimize this procedure are welcome!

The use of the 2 spreadsheets isn’t fully clear to me. Should both spreadsheet be edited by everyone? Should an editor use the overview spreadsheet to ‘claim’ an event to prevent multiple editors working on the same event? And then he works out the details of the RC in the personal spreadsheet?

Correct… the overview is to give an insight on what events or known and being worked on. You can see the status of the input of the event and check the details of all included closures via the link to the second spreadsheet.

So the first one is more to manage all the events, next to eachother, the second one is to work out one event, in detail…

Wait: aren’t you two talking about 2 different pairs of spreadsheets :?

there are the ‘individual spreadsheet for closures’ that everyone can use for himself - has to be copied to the OVERVIEW spreadsheet

there is the ‘OVERVIEW-spreadsheet for closures’: this is the sheet where everyone can work in, the info here is copied to the spreadsheet that Waze uses (level 4+ only)

and than there are also traffic events you can ask for in another part of this forum. After approval Waze sends the reporter a ‘traffic event spreadsheet’ specific for that event. In this spreadsheet communication is also directly with Waze.

Annick, you’re making it way too complex…
The spreadsheet waze uses (level 4+) is hardly known by most editors and if known, most can’t edit it.
The traffic event spreadsheet is also hardly known and not mainstream.

We should keep it loud and clear: there is :

  1. the overview spreadsheet and
  2. the spreadsheet we made as example, to be used when someone wants to provide all needed information to add a road closure.

( Sorry Steven, can’t ask this question right now on Hangouts  )
I just found an official source of information for roadworks in Liège & surroundings.
I have not only road closures, but also inversion of roads (A->B becomes B->A).

Is there any way to input this in the files ?
Or do I have to swap the roads and remember to put them in the good way after ?

If it’s a temporarly change of directions, you can change them in two way direction and add time based restrictions based on the dates mentioned in the source.
This way, you indeed have to remind yourself to put them back as normal, once all has passed…

I would like to remove a temporary road closure near my home. How should I proceed?

provide us the permalink of the segments that are subject of the closure, and we will remove it…

Thanks Steven, but it seems that the closure has already been removed.

I was looking for this feature as well. Here are two permalinks which I created with my iOS app and would like removed:
https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=-61.50829&lat=10.67446&layers=901&zoom=5&segments=192125845
https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=-61.50636&lat=10.67526&layers=901&zoom=6&segments=262582234

I can’t seem to add closures via the map editor so I made them restrictions with a start and end date instead.

These are permalinks quite far away from Belgium, where i don’t have any editing rights…
Is there no part in the forum for this area?

Thanks for the quick reply and apologies for posting this in the wrong forum… was just doing a lot of searches to find anyone with instructions on how to remove a road closure. Checking back on it today it seems that someone has already cleaned it up for me. Thanks again.
