Hi,
We are now entering the roadwork season and there are many road closures, turn restrictions etc, which tend to be quite fluid, changing from one day to the next. There are a couple of URs (Industrial and main) related to roadworks, how do we want to handle them?

See here: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Road_closures
and here: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Road_names/USA#Construction_zones_and_closed_roads
There is a new standard apparently as of Feb 2014 (see second link). For brief closures (less than ~1 month), we should use the Waze app Road Closed reporting function instead of making changes to the map.
Longer closures rely on renaming roads with the suffixes (Closed) and (Construction Zone) depending on the case. See the 2nd wiki link!
Hope this helps.
OK, I’ve added that to the UR thread. The wiki doesn’t say anything about how the duration of closure is managed, and the system needs multiple reports for the closure to have an effect on routing…
I think it’s a bad idea to make map changes (I guess that is what drives the use of the closure report), but I’m not sure how useful the closure report is actually going to be…
Thanks

Ok, I hate the idea of the (closed) and (construction zone) being added, as well as any suggestion to disconnect the road unless it is a VERY long term and HIGH HIGH value street.
In general, we’ve been having good success in Edmonton by just putting restrictions on the segments (not the turns – the segments themselves).
The problem with the “road closed” reporting in the app is that it needs several people to do it, and it expires. It’s great for partial-day sort of closures, but that’s about it. We should be getting that functionality in the editor soonish, but it’s not here yet.
I saw your post for the UR, and I don’t think I’m a fan of closure reporting through the app either as you say, it takes several reporters which we’re not going to get.
If you have a look at the link to the City of Vancouver site above in my first post, these closures are day only, some roads down to one lane alternating, some turn restrictions, a bit of everything really and they may last up to 8 weeks in sections. Unfortunately the website posting is not detailed enough to restrict turns and segments and I don’t think we want to have a team of editors down there on a daily basis to figure out what needs to be restricted.

FYI: see post in Unlock & Update request forum. There are some exciting changes to the Construction (and other) closure methods!
