Routing through medians

UR here is complaining about traveling southbound and being directed to turn left across a median into the Esso station. Just wanted to get some opinions on how best to handle these types of URs. Ontario is not U-turn friendly so routing like this is typically awkward for drivers.

PsstDizel pointed out this good thread to me on the related topic of PLRs at busy intersections.

PLRs at intersections

There are two Esso stations here that are blocked by the median. I think they meet the criteria for adding PLRs but don’t think it’s really a big problem here in practice. If you’re going to Esso, there’s one on each side of the road.

The gas station is a good candidate for a PLR. Gas stations are definitely the exception, because they’re highly trafficked by vehicles using Waze.

Waze’s Big Junctions is supposed to fix the mixed average times on previous segments.

First I’ve heard of Big Junctions. I was wondering if Waze could ever address this problem. This is well needed on the 404 south to the 401.

Nice spotlight of hmarian in the link as well.

The question I still have though is how best to deal with addresses on the wrong side of a median. I see a bunch of URs around the GTA now for this. Examples are St. Clair West with the new streetcar tracks and Don Mills road from about Lawrence heading south.

We’ll have to carefully divide the roads to address those complaints.
