Shortcuts for common hazards

Hi All,

It takes 5 taps to submit a hazard like a pothole. I would like to suggest to the developers to add 3 shortcuts on the map for the most common issues with some higher risk to them: Object on the road, vehicle stopped on the road, pothole. This would allow users to report these issue in a single tap, which again minimises the time it takes to report something.

Cheers,
Spinningwheelz.

Hi Spinningwheelz,

The Australian forums are only monitored by us community editors so Staff won’t see the suggestion you have made. Waze has a dedicated platform to submit suggestions which will be looked at by staff here: https://waze.uservoice.com

In case you weren’t aware, in Waze you can enable the Google Assistant with “OK Google” detection so you can use your voice to make reports while you drive without tapping the screen. I personally use it all the time. If not already enabled it can be done by tapping on My Waze -> the settings cog in the top left -> Voice and sounds -> Google Assistant -> Then toggling on both the Enable Google Assistant and Allow “OK Google” detection options.

Hope this helps,

hi BeastlyHaz,

Thanks, I wasn’t aware of the voice commands for flagging hazards. Would I say something like “OK Google, report pothole”?

Irrespectively, I cannot use those voice commands because I need to use Siri to switch apps, send text messages or to navigate while I drive, and when I last tried, if voice is activated in Waze, Siri cannot hear me while I am in Waze. I will try again, just in case this was just a glitch.

Cheers,
SW

Yes like that. Sometimes the voice command is a little different to what the report so a little trial and error is needed until you figure out what the correct wording is.

I just tried using Siri with Waze running and it works. I found that it doesn’t seem to pop up if you just say Hey Siri and wait for it, instead I needed to say the whole phrase at once (e.g. “Hey Siri, what’s the time”)

“Hey Siri” and “OK Google” are incompatible and won’t work together. It is generally one or the other while you are navigating. There may also be issues with spoken audio not pausing for voice directions.

The best way I have found is to leave “OK Google” turned off and press the Google microphone button to navigate or make a report. In Settings–>Voice and sounds –>Google Assistant make sure you have both “Enable Google Assistant” and “Show on map” turned on. The toggle for “OK Google” can be found here as well.

Hey Spinningwheelz,

Nice username.

Waze is aware and are working to streamline the reporting process. I’m looking forward to seeing it improved myself.
