There is a situation going on in Mansfield where people are cutting through side streets to get to the Xfinity Center (Concert Venue) Police had to close the roads, in their posts they claim they reached out to Waze to try to close roads in the app and they say Waze rejected them. I am hoping this is just a big misunderstanding as I cannot see the State Managers here rejecting the Mansfield Police Department. Could a State Manager reach out to the Mansfield Police Department to set something up? This makes Waze look bad, have a feeling they just did not reach out to the right people.

Based on their Facebook posting from the Mansfield Police Department, a road closure has been entered into waze on South Main Street for the concert on 6/24 4P-8P. I have also reached out directly to the Mansfield Police Department to better understand the issues they face.
Thanks John for helping to facilitate this. As a mapping community manned by volunteers, we can only be proactive in these matters if the communities are able to contact us in advance of these situations. Otherwise we are largely limited to being reactive to Wazer (driver) complaints!
I was in the area during a concert and saw that the section of South Main Street was shown as closed. The timing was incorrect. The police close the south bound (only south) section of South Main where is crosses I-495 from the time the concert ends for about an hour. I was there before the concert began and saw the closure on Waze but was able to access the road without issue. I was there again just as the police were putting up the “closed” sign.
Can the timing during concerts be corrected, and can it effect just the south bound side?
Closures are entered based off information provided to us in advance, if you can provide more information we will follow up with our Mansfield contact.
Be aware that the closure information that you see in the app could be from other drivers marking the road closed in the app, from third party closure information provided to senior waze editors to manually enter as closures, or from municipalities as waze partners marking the roads as closures.
If you see a closure that is not physically closed, you may of course choose to drive through it, and if enough drivers go through it, the system MAY (depending on the configuration of the closure) clear the closure temporarily. However, it is possible that a municipality may have intentionally closed a road within the Waze maps prior to physical police / barricade presence as the “intended” closure time.
Unfortunately we as map editing volunteers do NOT [thanks jm6087] have the manpower to monitor all closures realtime, and when municipalities work with Waze to place closures, we will largely defer to their closure entries – especially as we don’t know until after seeing complaints that they were not entered correctly.
This happened on Saturday, July 15, I passed South on South Main twice, once at 7:10 pm, the other at 10:10 pm. The concert started at 7:00 pm. I do understand that these temporary closures are sometimes difficult to predict & report. For concerts at Xfinity Center, the end time of the concert, and therefore the start of the closure, is a crapshoot.
Thank you for the examples, I will pass these along to my contact. However as mentioned we have limitations in monitoring and updating the specifics in a realtime manner and are working with the respective municipal entities to ensure they have the tools to be able to better manage these closures (unless someone wants to help arrange for me to be able to attend the concerts )
