Some advice please Cambridge (Windsor Rd)

My Level: 3
Reason for request: This road has a 6’6’’ gap partway through it (streeetview).

What’s the best way to ensure routing through it is only in case of total gridlock on normal alternatives?

The inability to capture width limits in the Waze editor and to specify vehicle width in the app is a constant source of frustration.

I don’t think the present system offers any halfway house between leaving it freely available and blocking it totally for through routing. As the driver of a thin car, I’d prefer to see the route left available for Waze to select whenever it’s quicker.

Thanks Ian.

In fairness there is clear signage before turning into that road that there is a width restriction, and one again once you turned into it but who reads the signs…

I have restrictions in place for all things large, not that the app is doing much with it. I had a suggestion from a fellow local editor to put a short stretch of private road where the gap is, what do people think?

As Waze is (currently) targeted at daily commuters in ordinary cars, our current policy is to only restrict routes that will affect these users, until such point that Waze provides the necessary tools for supporting all vehicle types and restrictions.

In this particular case, adding a restriction for Trucks and other large vehicles might sound reasonable, but there’s very little benefit without proper support for it in the client.

Ergo, width and height restrictions should not be added to the map at this time.

See the thread titled HOV is NOT a type of bus for “wider” discusion…

Understood, thanks Tim.
