Time Restrictions

I’m sure I asked this before, but I just ran a test in live map, that didn’t really prove conclusive.

Do time restrictions take into account the time you will actually be travelling over the segment. So for example the route below if you start it at 7am it crosses a time restriction that starts at 8am. Starting the route at 8 it adheres to the restriction even though its no longer in effect when you reach it.

Is this just a livemap time related bug or is this a bigger issue?

After I invented my hack for time-based turn restrictions for the CCZ and implemented it, I did some considerable testing in the client.

Routing from Sidcup to locations in Central London at different times of day, it was quite obvious that Waze will route you based on what restrictions are likely to be in force at the time you arrive at the restricted segment.

Say it would take me 30 minutes to reach the nearest edge of the CCZ from Sidcup. If I route to Euston Station (just outside the border on the opposite side of the CCZ) at 4pm, Waze will route me around the CCZ (which operates until 6pm)

If I route to Euston at 5:30pm, it will route me straight through the CCZ, even though it’s still in operation - because the restrictions will be off by the time of my expected arrival in the area.

If I route to Euston at 5pm the CCZ will be in operation when I reach it, but will cease operation before I reach Euston. So Waze will give me a route that goes around the CCZ until the point it estimates I will have reached by 6pm, at which point the route then cuts directly through the CCZ.

Having typed all that, I’m not going to abandon it, but I realised you can’t test it in the livemap, because that doesn’t avoid tolls!

So try this livemap route involving the Woolwich Ferry, which closes at 19:35 northbound.

If you run that route at 19:00, livemap will offer the ferry as an alternative - plainly you have time to reach it from Thamesmead.

If you try the same route at 19:30, the ferry will not be offered. Although the route is allowable at your chosen time of routing, it will not be available by the time you reach the ferry and Waze works this out correctly.

Yeah I thought you had tested it I remember asking at the time, so am I missing something then, why is it not working for my example?

Where’s the restriction?

Call yourself a country manager, don’t you know every single restriction in the uk…
