Waze ignoring timed restrictions

Two instances on URs responded to this morning where Waze has routed people through timed restrictions.

The first one was Stonecutter St, and the second Lisle St.

In the first instance, there were alternative routes available to route the user back to going south on Farringdon Rd (oh for a u-turn instruction!). In the second instance, the destination was 1 Leicester Sq and Waze could have routed the user to Wardour St, which is almost equidistant to the destination, without going through the restriction.

Either Waze isn’t too bothered by timed restrictions, or the penalty for going through a timed restriction when it’s in operation isn’t high enough.

Any other instances of this out there, or is this just a coincidence?

Timed restrictions have always worked for me, and those look fine.

Could it be a time issue - i.e Waze thought it was morning and therefore OK?
I’m wondering how Waze deals with time zones, whether it uses anything from the device or whether it uses your location to work out local time.

The Stonecutter St restrictions are 24x7, so Waze has no excuse for getting muddled on time zones. I think it has to do with the penalties that the routing server adds for going though a time restriction, but I’d be delighted if someone came up with something else.

The Stonecutter St restrictions are not being ignored, because they weren’t in place at the time the UR was raised.

Restricted segment was added 4th October.
UR raised 7th October.
Map is updated with edits up to 6th October on 8th October.

More details here. I’ve also merged the edit request for Stonecutter Street in with that topic.

Judging by your latest comment on the UR, John, are we also satisfied the route for Lisle St was fine, considering the users destination was actually on Lisle St (or this was the closest mapped segment)?

I fully accept that Stonecutter St is resolved and not an issue. Thanks again, Iain, for putting me right on that.

I’ve still got a question about the Lisle St incident as I can’t help feeling that Waze should take into account the fact that the segment calculated as closest to the destination is time restricted, particularly as unrestricted Wardour St by the Swiss Centre is almost the same distance away from it (it’s actually closer - 248’ vs 325’ according to Google Maps - to the GPS coordinates for the destination!).

I’ve been writing and rewriting this post for over 45 minutes now trying to get the words right to express my doubts, and although I’ve just about convinced myself that the navigation to Lisle St was correct by all the rules as we understand them, I’m still left with the question that, if I can tell that it’s a better route to send the user to Wardour St as Lisle St is closed to vehicles, why couldn’t Waze?
