Excessive traffic - request for routing adjustment - Rue du Ruisseau 75018 Paris

Hello,

I am writing to you regarding Rue du Ruisseau in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. Following the closure of nearby Rue Damrémont, which has been converted into a bus lane,

Rue du Ruisseau, which is located adjacent to it, is currently being used as a shortcut by Waze, which is generating a very high volume of cut-through traffic from morning to night. It has gone from a quiet little street used only by residents to a major thoroughfare.

Yet the street is residential, relatively narrow, lined with two schools, and poorly suited for a heavy flow of traffic.

Specifically, many vehicles use it to avoid main roads between Porte de Montmartre or Porte de Clignancourt and Rue Ordener, or even to enter Paris.

This leads to significant noise pollution and local traffic difficulties, and it has greatly affected the quality of life in the neighborhood. Vehicles used to use Rue Damrémont.

Would it be possible to study a routing adjustment to avoid cut-through traffic and reclassify the street as a “local street”?

Hello,
unfortunately, this is the result of the city council’s traffic plan choices, which are not designed holistically. When major roads are closed to traffic, the flow is diverted to adjacent streets without us being able to do anything about it, as the street is already at the lowest priority level in Waze.
Other similar examples face the same issue, such as Rue d’Aubervilliers, which has become the route of choice with the closure of Avenue de la Porte de la Chapelle.

Waze merely reflects the decisions of road managers.

Google Maps and undoubtedly Apple Maps and all other GPS systems do the same because there is no faster alternative.
