Not sure it’s necessary to split Capitol Dr within the intersection. The present arrangement isn’t gorgeous, but is it causing problems? If routing is ok may as well leave it alone.
There you go. And those little stubs on either side of the intersection really don’t need to be inserted there (they’re against best practices) BUT again, if it works, there’s no mandate to remove them and inadvertently cause unintended problems.
Am I mis-reading that? Or are you saying it just shouldn’t be split at intersections?
I removed the stubs you mentioned, but like you said, I caused unintended problems because the Mayfair Rd segments are locked and I can’t update the turns. Are you able to fix this? - All turns are allowed at this intersection.
Within the intersection it’s not necessary to have them split (there’s no “median” within the intersection). You can have all of the segments meet at a point (which is especially useful if you need to prohibit u-turns). If you go that route, make sure the angle leading into and away from the junction isn’t too sharp, or the driver will get “keep right” or “turn right” prompts for instructions to keep going straight.
With that said, there’s nothing wrong with just leaving it alone if it’s not causing problems. Or with treating it like there is a median within the intersection (i.e., an intersection that looks like # with four individual junctions). I used to eliminate those on principle, but realized that despite their added complexity, if they’re working, it’s simply better to leave them alone.
